31-30 Quarter Fender Reinforcement FLA COE FLB COE FLD Conventional Business Class FLC 112 Conventional Century Class Conventional Argosy COE Cargo Columbia Freightliner Service Bulletin Coronado Business Class M2 > Cascadia 108SD/114SD General Information On some Cascadia vehicles built with full-length chassis side fairings, the rear quarter fenders may crack at the fender mounting. A steel reinforcement is available to improve the durability of the quarter fender mounting. See Fig. 1. When replacing a rear quarter fender, it is recommended that the additional steel reinforcements also be installed. 1 14 13 2 3 3 11 12 4 5 11 5 10 6 7 8 8 7 9 4 8 6 8 07/25/2012 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. f311157 Fender Flap Locknut, SST, 5/16–18 Flat washer, SST, 5/16 Capscrew, GR8, 5/16–18 x 1 Flatwasher, SST, 5/16, 1.125 OD 6. Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down the engine, and set the parking brake. Chock the tires. 2. Remove the damaged quarter fender from the mounting brackets. 3. Remove the fender flap from the damaged quarter fender. 4. Install the fender flap on the new quarter fender, leaving empty the two holes where the reinforcements will attach. Tighten the fasteners 6 to 8 lbf·ft (8 to 11 N·m). 5. Position the quarter fender reinforcements on the new quarter fender. The longer toe of each reinforcement should point inward. See Fig. 1 for orientation. Attach each reinforcement to the top of the fender at the fender flap and hand-tighten the fasteners. 6. Insert the mounting bracket fasteners into the fender and the middle of each reinforcement to keep the reinforcements properly positioned. 7. Using the bottom holes in the reinforcements as guides, drill four holes into the quarter fender using a 1/4inch bit. While drilling, pay close attention to positioning to ensure the holes are at the tops of the fender ridges. IMPORTANT: Do not tighten more than the specified torque or the fastener may distort or damage the quarter fenders. 8. Install the fasteners with the 1.25 OD washers touching the quarter fender plastic, and the .62 OD washers between the larger washers and the capscrew head. Install the bracket-side nuts with .62 OD washers. See Fig. 1. Tighten the fasteners 4 to 6 lbf·ft (5.5 to 8 N·m). 9. Tighten the two top fasteners 6 to 8 lbf·ft (8 to 11 N·m). 10. Install the quarter fender assembly onto the mounting bracket, and tighten the mounting fasteners 6 to 8 lbf·ft (8 to 11 N·m). Warranty This procedure is warrantable only if the described condition exists and the repair is performed within the applicable base or extended coverage warranty period. If a failure is not found, this procedure is considered preventive and warranty does not apply. Normal warranty applies. See Table 2 for QuickClaim damage code and labor allowance information.
