Title (customer effect)
Aftertreatment Control Module ( ACM ) Diagnostic Trouble Codes ( DTC ) U0001-88
and U0010-88 Lighting The Malfunction Indicator Lamp ( MIL ); Possible Derate
Warning – US10 And Newer Chassis
Cause
ACM harness rubbing and chafing can cut into wires, resulting in DTCs and loss of
communication with the ACM. ACM faults can result in derate conditions.
Solution
Required Parts
- Separator Tie, Part 20885497:
- Harness Tape, Part 20469544
Inspection
If either of these codes are present, check the wiring harness for damage or chafing in
the following areas:
I. ACM Breakout Harness:
A. Chafing or Rubbing between harnesses:
If contact between the harnesses is found, resecure them with a separator tie to
keep them apart.
B. Chafing or Rubbing at the clipping point (cable tie) securing the harness near
the FCUT connector:
If the cable tie is found to be cutting into the wire insulation, remove the cable
tie, wrap the exposed wires in harness tape and re-clip the harness securely.
II. Air Compressor Discharge Hose
Check the section of the AHI harness that passes by the air compressor discharge line:
If the ACM harness is rubbing the air compressor discharge hose, make sure the
harness is clipped to the airline bundle securely as shown above. Attach a separator tie
between the harness and the discharge hose to keep the two apart.
III. Diesel Exhaust Fluid ( DEF ) Supply and Return Lines
Check the section of the AHI harness that passes by the DEF supply and return lines:
If the harness is contacting the DEF lines, attach a separator tie between the harness
and the lines to keep them apart.
IV. Frame Rail
Check the area where the ACM harness passes by the frame rail:
The harness should not contact tthe edge of the frame rail. If there is contact with the
edge, the harness needs to be properly secured to its clipping brackets so it is able to
clear the rail.
