Issue: Wheel stud failures (fractures).
Cause: Overload fracture due to incorrect torque being applied or incorrect process
application and sequence being applied to the wheel stud following wheel removal and
refit.
Action: Ensure that the correct torque is applied in the correct sequence as detailed in
Topix Section 204-04: Wheels and Tires.
JLR do not recommend the use of air tools, for wheel nut removal and installation. Hand
tools and a torque wrench - set to the correct value - should be used.
Technicians - Please rate this SSM and provide comments so that future
communications can be improved.
