 The ambient light in the outer door handle does not work and/or water ingress into light housing.
Technical Background
There is a damaged seal (Figure 1) in the wiring
harness connector for surround lighting in the outer
door handle. Water seeps into the light in the outer
door handle through the connector. This leads to the
failure of the ambient light.

Service
If the ambient light in the outer door handle of the A4, A5, or Q5 does not work or it leaks, proceed as follows:
1. Check the wiring harness connector for the ambient light in the outer door handle for correct fit and its wiring
for other irregularities.
2. If the wiring harness connector and its wiring for
the ambient light in the outer door handle are
damaged or have the white seal, the faulty ambient
light in the outer door handle can be replaced
(Figure 2).

3. If the wiring harness has an orange seal, this is the
updated connector (Figure 3) and will not need to
be replaced.

Start by inspecting one door handle light. If it is the old part, then replace all four (unless the A5 Cabriolet which
would only replace two).
