Action: Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. Using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) or equivalent, retrieve DTCs in the powertrain control module (PCM). Are P0300 and/or P0316 the only DTCs present? (1). Yes - proceed to step 2. (2). No - this article does not apply. Refer to Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual for normal diagnostics. 2. Remove and inspect spark plugs. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM) Section, 303-07. Does the vehicle have CYFS-12-YEC spark plugs? (1). Yes - verify the spark plugs are gapped to 1.0 mm (0.040 in.). Set the gap as needed. Use Rotunda Technician Tool Program (RTTP) KDT165 or equivalent to verify gap. Proceed to Step 3. (2). No - install four new CYFS-12-YEC spark plugs and set plug gap to 1.0 mm (0.040 in.). Use RTTP tool KDT165 or equivalent to gap and adjust the plugs before installing. Proceed to Step 3. 3. Reprogram the PCM using IDS or Ford J2534 Diagnostic Software (FJDS) release 108.07 or higher. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates.
