CONDITION SUMMARY:
SITUATION:
A boom noise may be heard in the passenger compartment when the vehicle is in motion.
CAUSE:
This may be caused by one or more of the following:
• Incorrect rear subframe alignment; or
• Incorrect alignment of the tailgate.
ACTION:
Should a customer express this concern, follow the Workshop Procedures below.

Support the rear subframe assembly with a suitable transmission jack.
1 Remove and discard the 4 subframe retaining bolts.

Loosen (only) the subframe support plate retaining bolts (6) and nuts (4).

Release the transmission jack and allow the subframe to relax.

Install the 4 new subframe retaining bolts but do not tighten fully at this time.

NOTE:
Do not remove the alignment equipment until Step 10.
Complete a 4-wheel alignment inspection/adjustment (see TOPIx Workshop Manual section 20400: Suspension System - General Information - General Procedures - Four wheel alignment).

Tighten the subframe retaining bolts.
Torque: 170 Nm.

Torque:
M8 - 25 Nm.
M10 - 60 Nm.
1 Verify alignment settings have not changed.
2 Remove the alignment equipment.

Install the left and right undershields.

Lower the vehicle.

Go to Workshop Procedure 'B'.

This Step must be performed to both sides of the vehicle/tailgate.

Use a suitable straight edge and a feeler gauge to set the tailgate alignment to 2.5 mm under
flush.
1 Perform this step to the other side of the vehicle.

Perform a road test.
1 If the customer concern is not present, do not continue with this Technical Bulletin.
Release the vehicle to the customer.
2 If the customer concern is present, go to Workshop Procedure 'C'.

Raise the vehicle on a ramp (see TOPIx Workshop Manual section 100-02: Jacking and Lifting).

Loosen the exhaust clamp.

Lower the vehicle on the ramp (see TOPIx Workshop Manual section 100-02: Jacking and Lifting).

Align the exhaust system:
1 Start and stop the engine 4 times.
2 Start the engine.
3 Raise the engine RPM to between 3,500RPM and then let the engine speed drop to idle.
Repeat this step 5 additional times.
4 Stop the engine.
5 Start and stop the engine 5 times.

Close the hood.

Perform a road test.
1 If the customer concern is not present, release the vehicle.
2 If the customer concern is present, submit a Technical Assistance (TA) request for further
assistance.
