Issue:
Oil leaking between the automatic transmission and transfer case
assemblies which in some instances is being misdiagnosed potentially
leading to repeat repairs, for example leaks incorrectly being identified
as coming from the rear transmission oil seal or oil pan.
Oil weeps through the aluminium casing in the rear extension housing
of the transmission in the base of the pocket around where the steel D
clutch steel tube is embedded.

(LR) Discovery – 013353 - 064732
Cause:
Internal porosity in the area of the extension casing allows oil to
reach the end of the small pocket under the tube where it is prone to
casting skin damage during casting. Oil then drips from the drain hole
in the space between the transmission and transfer box.
Action:
Remove the transfer case assembly.
Inspect the area as shown in the attached file.
Confirm leak is as shown in the attached file.
Submit a FRED for an automatic transmission replacement attaching
clear photos confirming the issue
