Service Bulletin 18-044 June 26, 2018 Version 1 Product Update: 2017 Civic Type-R Turbocharger Control Solenoid Valve Circuit AFFECTED VEHICLES Year Model Trim VIN Range 2017 Civic Type-R Check the iN VIN Status for Eligibility. BACKGROUND The MIL comes on with DTC P0035 (turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve circuit high) and the message REV Match System Problem / Emissions System Problem on the MID. California residents only: This product update also affects emissions. Have the service advisor give the certificate to the customer as proof that the recall was completed. CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION Owners of affected vehicles will be sent a notification of this campaign. Do an iN VIN status inquiry to make sure the vehicle is shown as eligible. POSSIBLE CAUSES Due to heat and the natural frequency of the harness, the coupler wire oscillates, causing an open circuit to the turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve. CORRECTIVE ACTION Replace the engine wire harness with the updated kit. Defect Code Symptom Code Template ID Failed Part Number 6BV00 V2000 A18044A 32110-5BF-A01 Skill Level: Repair Technician REPAIR PROCEDURE 1. Disconnect the 12-volt battery. Refer to the service information. 2. Raise the vehicle on a lift. 3. Remove the following parts from underneath the vehicle. Refer to the service information. • Engine undercover • Unbolt and slide back the heat shield above exhaust pipe B • Exhaust pipe A Page 2 of 8 • Power steering gearbox heat shield NOTE Carefully remove exhaust pipe A to avoid damaging the steering gearbox heat shield. 4. Disconnect the engine wire harness connectors underneath and at the back of the engine. Page 3 of 8 5. Lower the vehicle. 6. Remove the following parts at the engine compartment. Refer to the service information. • Engine cover • Engine air box assembly • Battery and battery tray • ECU • Charge air cooler and bracket • Cooling system bypass heater hoses NOTE Carefully remove the heater hoses and cap off to avoid coolant loss. • Intake manifold bracket 7. Unbolt the coolant reservoir, then move it out of the way. NOTE Do not disconnect the hoses to the coolant reservoir. Page 4 of 8 8. Disconnect the engine wire harness connectors, and unbolt the ground wires. Page 5 of 8 9. Remove the turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve and pipe as shown. NOTE The turbochanger bypass control solenoid valve will be relocated and reused. 10. Remove the engine wire harness. 11. Install the new turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve pipe, connect the new hoses, and install the turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve as shown. Page 6 of 8 12. Install the new engine wire harness and related parts included in the kit. 13. Install all removed parts in the reverse order of removal. Refer to the service information. 14. Top off the coolant. Page 7 of 8 15. California residents only: Fill out a Vehicle Emissions Recall – Proof of Correction certificate, and use V20 as the recall number. Have the service advisor give the certificate to your customer, and advise him or her to keep it as proof that the recall was completed. Your customer will need to submit this certificate to the DMV only if the DMV requests it. If you need more certificates, use reorder number Y0657. END Page 8 of 8
