TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 3.2L Diesel - Drive To Clean Maintenance Message And/Or An Illuminated MIL With DTCs P2459, P2463 And/Or P246C 18-2223 23 July 2018 This bulletin supersedes 18-2189. Reason for update: Incorrect Procedure Model: Ford 2015-2018 Transit Assembly Plant: Kansas City Assembly Plant Summary This article supersedes TSB 18-2189 to update the Service Procedure. Issue: Some 2015-2018 Transit vehicles equipped with a 3.2L diesel engine may exhibit "Drive To Clean" maintenance messages and/or an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on with DTC P2459, P2463, and/or P246C. Vehicles may also exhibit frequent automatic exhaust regeneration attempts. This may be due to vehicles being used in a stationary or off-highway, low speed applications. If automatic regeneration attempts are unsuccessful, these symptoms may be a result of soot accumulation in the diesel particulate filter (DPF). These vehicles may benefit from operator commanded regeneration (OCR) capability so complete regeneration cycles may be performed in a stationary setting. Action: Information only, follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. Warranty Status: Information Only. Repair/Claim Coding Causal Part: IN Condition Code: 04 Service Procedure OCR will allow the vehicle operator to perform manual regeneration of the DPF without the need to drive the vehicle. Enable OCR as follows: 1. Connect the appropriate Ford scan tool to the data link connector (DLC). 2. Start a new session. 3. Select Module Programming. 4. Select Programmable Parameters. 5. Select Car Configuration Parameter(s). 6. Select Vehicle Configuration in upper left of the screen. 7. Select Retrieve the vehicle configuration data. 8. Select Modify and reinstate vehicle configuration data. 9. Select parameter for MANUAL REGEN INITIATION. 10. Provide the customer with the OCR Customer Information Sheet prior to releasing the vehicle. (1).
