CAUSE Location of ambient temperature sensor. Temperature readings are influenced by: z External engine oil cooler. z Ambient temperature of operating engine compartment. CORRECTION Install thermal protection insulating mat for the outside temperature sensor. This mat is installed behind the front bumper cover on the passenger side of the vehicle. PROCEDURE For conditions that are similar to the situation described: 1. Run diagnosis with ISTA 4 and work through the corresponding test module if necessary. Did the ABL identify a fault? YES - follow diagnostic test plan. NO - install thermal protection for the outside temperature sensor (insulating mat) in the vehicle. 2. Follow REP 51 11 157 to access right side of front bumper cover. 3. Install the thermal protection mat for the outside temperature sensor. (See Step 16 of the REP for details on installation location). https://www.bmwtis.net/tiscode/cgi-bin/bulletin.aspx?sie_path=/tsb/bulletins/htm_store/407... 5/5/2017 Page 2 of 4 4. Reinstall remaining components. 5. Program and encode the vehicle with ISTA/P 3.61.0 or ISTA 4.04.12 or higher version. Target integration level: S15A-17-03-502 or higher G12 (M760Li_xDrive) Note that ISTA/P or ISTA 4 will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software. Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10). For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P or ISTA 4, refer to CenterNet / TIS / Technical Documentation / Diagnostics and Programming / Programming Documentation.
