INSTRUMENT CLUSTER RESETS
MODEL
G12 (7 Series)
G30 (5 Series Sedan)
With SA6WB multifunction instrument display.
SITUATION
Instrument cluster sporadically flickers and/or fails.
Instrument cluster performs spontaneous reset.
CAUSE
Instrument cluster software.
CORRECTION
Reprogram/encode vehicle
PROCEDURE
For conditions that are similar to the situation described:
1. Perform diagnosis with the latest version of ISTA.
2. Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 3.61.0 or ISTA 4.04.1x or higher to the following
integration level:
G12, G30
Target integration level: S15A-17-03-502 or
higher
3. Did reprogram/encoding of vehicle provide a reliable solution?
YES — No further action required for this issue.
NO — Replace the instrument cluster as per the repair instructions.
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do
not have the latest software.
Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10).

When ISTA/P automatically reprograms and codes all the vehicle’s control modules that “currently
do not have” the latest software and if one or more control module failures occur “during” this
programming procedure:

listed in this bulletin with the applicable KSD2/AIR labor operations.
