customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please
perform the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop.
SUBJECT
Service Action: Repair Roof Side Frame Paint
MODEL
F82 (M4 Coupe)
Produced from January 13, 2015 to April 1, 2015
SITUATION
Paint may be blistered / damaged in the area on the left side roof side frame
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves certain F82 (M4 Coupe) models produced from January 13, 2015 to
April 1, 2015.
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked
either in the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.
CAUSE
Paint on the left roof side frame may be damaged due to exposure to high heat during production.
CORRECTION
Remove the left side roof frame trim strip, check the paint work for damage and repair as needed.
PROCEDURE
1. Use Repair Instructions RA 51
13 280 “Remove and install or
replace the trim strip on the roof
frame on the left or right side” to
remove the left roof side trim.

2. Locate the area by the carbon
fiber roof panel. The area to be
inspected is on the left side
approxmately 65 to 69 cm from
the front edge.
3. The area that may be affected is
approximately 3 -5 cm in size
and it located on the inside edge.
4. If no damage is found with the
paint, no further action is
required.
5. Reassemble the removed parts to
the vehicle.
Repair procedure if paint work is required:
1. Sand the damaged area down to

the bare metal with grade P220
sandpaper.
2. At the site of the damage, there
is no adhesion between the
layers of paint and the metal
underneath.This area of
transition must be sanded using
grade P400 sandpaper.
3. Care should be taken to ensure
that the transition area between
the roof edge and the CFRP roof
is not scratched. This area must
be masked off with adhesive
tape.
4. Apply primer and paint as you
would with a spot paint repair.
5. Mask off the area of the roof and
clip for the roof frame trim strip
and apply a preservative to the
repaired area.

Paint and Refinish Work
Invoice the paint and refinish sublet work on the repair order at the actual cost charged with no
handling or markup. The sublet amount must also include any discounts or allowances.
Appropriate charges are determined by comparing them to the corresponding warranty rates. Prior
to performing the repair, calculate your center’s repair cost and then obtain outside repair estimate
(s) for price comparison purposes.
