SITUATION
AHL (Active Headlight Control) malfunctions on both sides. Both lights aim either up or down while driving.
Fault Code 8041B6 is present.
CAUSE
Broken mounting bolt holding on the rear height sensor bracket
CORRECTION
Secure the loose rear height sensor bracket.
PROCEDURE
1.
Inspect the rear height
sensor, located in the left rear of
the vehicle as shown. If the
sensor bracket is hanging loose,
the hex mounting bolt has
broken.

If the hex bolt is broken,
remove the broken bolt.
(Unscrew the broken bolt out or,
if necessary, drill it out.)
Replace it with a new bolt and
nut.
The tightening torque is 8 Nm.
If the procedure above is not the root cause, diagnose the issue and any stored fault codes with ISTA.

Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance. Enter the Chassis Number, which consists of
the last 7 digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Click on the “Search” button, and then enter the
applicable flat rate labor operation in the FR code field.
Since the “work time” FRU allowance to be claimed is specified for labor operation 37 99 000, a separate punch
time is not required.
Other Repairs - Bolt issue is not the root cause
If performing ISTA diagnostics and related test plans results in other eligible and covered work, claim this work
with the applicable defect code and/or labor operations listed in KSD2.
