CONDITION SUMMARY:
SITUATION:
The engine MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) may be illuminated on the Instrument Panel Cluster with
DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) P0234-77 stored in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). DTC P246300 and P246B-00 may also be stored.
CAUSE:
This may be caused by a component fault.
ACTION:
Should a customer express this concern, follow the Diagnostic Procedure and Workshop Procedure(s)
below.

DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 'A':
CAUTIONS:
A Jaguar Land Rover-approved Midtronics battery power supply must be connected to the
vehicle startup battery during diagnosis / module programming.
All ignition ON/OFF requests must be performed; failure to perform these steps may cause
damage to control modules in the vehicle.

Connect the Jaguar Land Rover-approved Midtronics battery power supply to the vehicle
startup battery.

NOTE:
The Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic tool must be loaded with SDD155.03
Software Management Pack v308 (or later) OR PATHFINDER 208 (or later).
Connect the Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic tool to the vehicle and begin a new
session.

Follow all on-screen instructions, allowing the diagnostic tool to read the VIN, identify the
vehicle, and initiating the data collect sequence.

Read the DTC.
If DTC P0234-77 is not stored, do not continue with this Technical Bulletin.
Perform diagnosis as per TOPIx Workshop Manual section 100-00: General
Information - Description and Operation.
If DTC P0234-77 is stored, go to Workshop Procedure 'A'.

Exit the current session.
1 Select the Session tab.
2 Select the Close Session option.
WORKSHOP PROCEDURE 'A':
NOTE:
DTC P0234-77 can be attributed to a leak in the air intake system.

Complete a leakage test on the intake system using smoke test equipment (see TOPIx
Workshop Manual section 303-00: Engine system general information - General procedures Leakage test using smoke test equipment).
If a leak is not found, go to Service Instruction B.
If a leak Is found, repair as required (see TOPIx Workshop Manual).
To be performed as a separate claim.
When the leak repair is complete, go to the next step.

NOTE:
The Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic tool must be loaded with SDD155.03
Software Management Pack v308 (or later) OR PATHFINDER 208 (or later).
Begin a new session.

Follow all on-screen instructions, allowing the diagnostic tool to read the VIN, identify the
vehicle, and initiating the data collect sequence.

Read and clear all DTC.

Perform a short vehicle road test.

After the road test, read the DTC.
If DTC P0234-77 is not stored, do not continue with this Technical Bulletin.
Go to the next step.
If DTC P0234-77 is stored, go to Service Instruction 'B'.

Exit the current session.
1 Select the Session tab.
2 Select the Close Session option.

Disconnect the diagnostic tool and battery power supply from the vehicle.
WORKSHOP PROCEDURE 'B':
1
Renew the intake air shutoff throttle (see TOPIx Workshop Manual section 303-04: Fuel
Charging and Controls - Removal and Installation - Intake Air Shutoff Throttle).
1 When all tasks are finished, go to the appropriate Diagnostic Procedure below:
2016MY Vehicles: go to Diagnostic Procedure 'B' to perform a Diesel Particulate
Filter (DPF) - Dynamic regeneration.
2017-18MY Vehicles: go to Diagnostic Procedure 'C' to perform a Diesel
Particulate Filter (DPF) - Dynamic regeneration.

This Diagnostic Procedure is only for vehicles requiring the Jaguar Land Rover-approved
diagnostic equipment with Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD).
CAUTIONS:
A Jaguar Land Rover-approved battery power supply must be connected to the vehicle
startup battery.
All ignition ON/OFF requests MUST be performed; failure to do these steps may cause
damage to vehicle control modules.

Connect the Jaguar Land Rover-approved battery power supply to the vehicle startup battery.
NOTE:
The Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic equipment must be loaded with
SDD155.03 Software Management Pack v308 (or later).
Connect the Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic equipment to the vehicle and begin a
new session.

Follow all on-screen instructions.

If the hyperlink is not available:
1 Select Diagnosis from the Session Type screen.
2 Select Run to perform the 'Diesel particulate filter dynamic regeneration' option.

Follow all on-screen instructions until the application completes successfully.
1 When prompted, select the Clear DTCs option following completion of the software
download.
2 Follow the on-screen instructions until the application finishes successfully.

Disconnect the diagnostic equipment and battery power supply from the vehicle.
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 'C':
This Diagnostic Procedure is only for vehicles requiring the Jaguar Land Rover-approved
diagnostic equipment with PATHFINDER.
CAUTIONS:
A Jaguar Land Rover-approved battery power supply must be connected to the vehicle
startup battery.
All ignition ON/OFF requests MUST be performed; failure to do these steps may cause
damage to vehicle control modules.

Connect the Jaguar Land Rover-approved battery power supply to the vehicle startup battery.
NOTE:
The Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic equipment must be loaded with
PATHFINDER version 208 (or later).
Connect the Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic equipment to the vehicle and begin a
new session.

NOTE:
The Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic equipment will read the correct Vehicle
Identification Number (VIN) for the current vehicle and automatically take the vehicle
out of Transit mode (if required).
