Initial Evaluation
Condition: Noise from
panoramic sunroof area while

driving. (“ticking” or “popping”
noise)
Location: Noise can be heard at
2. the center or rear of the
panoramic sunroof glass.
Confirmation: Noise can be
confirmed by tilting the sunroof
glass up while driving.
3.
->If noise does not occur when
moving glass is tilted up, the TSB
does not apply.
Service Procedure:
Silicone Oil Application:
1.
In some instances, creaking noise can
originate from the door weather strip area
which may be diagnosed as sunroof noise.
To eliminate any noise concerns originating
from the door weather strip, follow the
silicone oil application procedure outlined
below.
Wipe the front primary weather strip (B)
using a clean towel (A).
NOTE:
Wipe the dust/dirt using a wet towel and
then use a dry towel.

Apply the silicone oil (D) using a brush (G)
to the front sunroof glass molding (C).
3.
Insert a thin paper (F) between the front
sunroof glass molding (C) and rear fixed
glass (E).
CAUTION
Ensure not to damage roof glass
panel.

Insert the brush (G) between the front glass
molding (C) and thin paper (F) to apply the
silicone lubricant.
NOTE:
Apply about 5~7g oil per vehicle.
5.
Apply the silicone oil (D) to the rear moving
glass side similar to the front side
procedure.
6.
Push the sunroof switch (H) and open the
panorama sunroof.

Using a clean towel (A), wipe all four edges
of the moving glass.
NOTE:
Wipe using a wet towel first and then
use a dry towel.

Check the position of the ‘C’ shape front fix
seal (J).

Using a rag, clean the front and side fixed
seal (J).
NOTE:
Wipe using a wet towel and then use a
dry towel.

Using a rag, clean the front roof side
molding (K).
NOTE
Wipe using a wet towel and then use a
dry towel.

Clean the moving glass (I) side after tilting
the front glass back side.
NOTE
Wipe using wet towel and then use the
dry towel.

Clean the glass rear molding (L).
NOTE
Wipe using a wet towel and then use a
dry towel.

Apply the silicone oil (D) to all four edges of
the front glass (I).
14.
The silicone oil should be applied to the
surface edge sides for the rear side. Apply
the oil after tilting the moveable glass.
15.
Apply the silicone oil (D) to the ‘C’ shape
front fixed seal (J).
NOTE:
Apply the oil to the flat side of ‘C’ shape
fix seal.

16.
Apply the silicone oil (D) to the LH/RH side
molding (L).
NOTE:
Apply the oil to the inner side.
NOTE:
For the rear side, apply the oil to the
inner side after tilting.
17.
Prepare a clean brush (M).
NOTE:
If the brush is contaminated, wipe it
using a clean towel.

18.
Insert the clean brush (M) fully into the
moving glass rear side and push the foreign
material by moving the brush to the rear.
NOTE:
Perform procedure with the sunroof
closed.
Move the brush to the end and repeat the
procedure three times each for the LH/RH
sides.
19.
Coat the grease (O) to the dry brush (M).

20.
Apply grease twice to the mechanism rail
assembly LH side.
NOTE:
Apply the grease from the moving glass
rear (P) to rear end side (R).
NOTE:
Follow Steps 19-21 for RH side. Prepare
a clean brush for RH side.
Apply ~15g of grease per vehicle
PANORAMA SUNROOF NOISE
INSPECTION:
After the applying the silicone oil, perform
the drive test with sunroof open and check
for noise.
- If the noise is not observed, service
procedure is complete.
- If noise is present, move to ‘PANORAMA
SUNROOF NOISE REPAIR’ procedure.

(A) : front side noise.
(B) : upper side noise.
(C) : back side noise.

1.
PANORAMA SUNROOF NOISE REPAIR:
Panorama sunroof noise repair requires
checking and torquing the sunroof fasteners
to specifications.
To gain access to the sunroof fasteners, the
headliner needs to be partially lowered. To
lower the headliner, follow the procedure in
the Shop Manual.

Repair Procedures
NOTE: Disregard step 1 and 2 of the
repair procedure in shop manual.
Lowering the headliner will not require
removal of the seat assembly.

Check the position of LH/RH sunroof front
mounting side (S).

NOTE:
Check the tightening torque of bolts (S).
Tightening Torque :
5.5 ~ 6.5 Nm (0.5 ~0.6 kgf.m, 4.0 ~ 4.7 lbft)
3.
Loosen the front sunroof mounting nuts (T).
NOTE:
Front mounting nut : Total 3 EA (LH/RH,
Center)

Apply the Loctite to the front sunroof
mounting bolts (U).

NOTE:
Apply the Loctite to the 3 bolts (LH/RH,
Center).
5.
Tighten the sunroof front mounting nuts (T)
to the specified torque.
Tightening Torque :
7.8 ~11.8 Nm (0.7 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 5.7 ~ 8.7
lb-ft)
6.
Remove the mounting nuts (V) of ‘B’ pillar
side LH/RH bracket.
NOTE:
Apply Loctite to the mounting bolts and
retighten mounting nuts to specification.
Tightening Torque :
7.8 ~11.8 Nm (0.7 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 5.7 ~ 8.7
lb-ft)

Remove the sunroof rear mounting nuts
(W).
NOTE:
Apply Loctite to the 3 bolts (LH/RH,
center) and retighten mounting nuts to
specification
Tightening Torque :
7.8 ~11.8 Nm (0.7 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 5.7 ~ 8.7
lb-ft)
8.
Open sunroof completely.
9.
Remove the mounting bolts (X) on the
moveable glass.
Tightening Torque :
4.5 ~ 5.5 Nm (0.4 ~ 0.5 kgf.m, 3.3 ~ 4.0 lbft)

Remove the center & rear mounting bolts
(Y).
Tightening Torque :
4.5 ~ 5.5 Nm (0.4 ~ 0.5 kgf.m, 3.3 ~ 4.0 lbft)
11.
Remove the moving glass (Z).
CAUTION
When removing/installing the moving
glass, be careful not to damage or
scratch it.

Remove the rear locator mounting bolts (A).
Tightening Torque :
4.5 ~ 5.5 Nm (0.4 ~ 0.5 kgf.m, 3.3 ~ 4.0 lbft)
13.
Remove the rear locator (B).
14.
Place the rear locator (B) on its side, see
reference picture to the right.
NOTE:
Pad will be attached to the locator lower
section (C).

Remove the protective vinyl (E) of the pad
(D).
Attach the pad (D) to the locator lower side
(B).

Re-install the locator (E).
Insert the protrusion side (B) on the
curve panel to the locator groove (E).
17.
Tighten the locator mounting bolts (A).
Tightening Torque :
4.5 ~ 5.5 Nm (0.4 ~ 0.5 kgf.m, 3.3 ~ 4.0 lbft)

18.
Apply grease to the locator groove (E).
CAUTION
Apply the grease evenly on the
locator.
Be careful not to get grease on
surrounding components.
19.
Apply grease to the 4 surfaces (F) of curve
on panel.
NOTE:
Complete procedure on both LH/RH
sides.

20.
Check the gap (G) on the edge of the ‘C’
pillar roof panel side.
21.
Carefully insert a flat screw driver (H)
3~5mm into the gap (G).
NOTE
Gently pry (at ~30 degree angle) the gap
using the flat screw driver.
Complete procedure on LH/RH side.

22.
Reinstall all removed parts in reverse order.
Perform the test drive and check if noise is
no longer present.
Service procedure is now complete.
