Issue: Variations of DTC P0087 are stored in the PCM for the fuel rail pressure sensor.
Cause: This concern is under investigation. In some instances, this condition has been caused by
misfueling or use of contaminated fuel.
Action: In addition to following all TOPIx steps for diagnosis for the applicable P0087 code. Please also
perform the following:
Verify that the vehicle has not been fueled with anything other than diesel fuel
Find out the conditions of the last fueling event, especially if it was recent to the customer concern
(how much fuel, location of fueling station, fueling company, approximate date)
Drain water from fuel and measure the amount that is removed.
Diagnose all relevant additional codes (i.e. injector codes).
Inspect the high pressure pump & filter for signs of debris, rusting, corrosion etc.
Retain a 1L fuel sample in a clean container.
If all these checks have been carried out, in addition to regular diagnoses of fuel rail pressure sensor
codes, please raise a TA with a current session file and include all the above information (exact
measurements, clear applicable pictures etc.) in your submission. Follow LTS guidance and hold onto
any parts that are replaced in relation to this concern.
