Service Information Page 1 of 3 Heating and Air Conditioning Technical Service B64 04 19 June 2019 INTERMITTENT HEATER OUTPUT This Service Information bulletin replaces SI B64 04 19 dated April 2019 What’s New: • Added new vehicle models • Added note to Situation section • Added part number verification to Procedure section • Added new part numbers • Warranty information attachment MODEL G12 PHEV (740e xDrive iPerformance Sedan) I15 (i8 Roadster) G30 PHEV (530e iPerformance Sedan) I01 (i3) I12 (i8 Coupe) Produced from March 1 thru December 1, 2018 SITUATION Intermittently the vehicle has no heater output, and the following fault code is stored in the IHKA: Fault code E70C3A Control module IHKA Text Electric auxiliary heater: EDH does not respond Additional fault codes can also be stored: Fault code Control module E71482 IHKA E7147F IHKA Text Message OBD (LIN timeout, 0x11, AC-LIN4) receiver IHKA, transmitter electric heater Message OBD (LIN timeout, 0x13, AC-LIN4): receiver IHKA, sender of electric A/C compressor Note: In some cases the customer may also complain of a check engine light (MIL). CAUSE IHKA software, faulty electric heater (EH); or faulty communication between the EH and the IHKA. CORRECTION Replace the EH and program the vehicle if required. 2 PROCEDURE 1. Replace the EH per Repair Instructions 64 12 320 “Removing and installing/replacing electrical heating”. Note: Verify the correct part number is being installed! (G12 & G30 shown as example) 2. Program the vehicle with ISTA 4.14.1x (I-Level 18-11-520) or higher. • • Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10) For information on programming and coding with ISTA, refer to CenterNet / TIS / Technical Documentation / Programming and Diagnostics / Programming Documentation 3. And, if necessary: Labor Operation: 61 00 730 Labor Allowance: Refer to AIR Description: Programming/encoding control unit(s) Refer to AIR for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowances. During the same workshop visit, if a vehicle also requires another Technical Campaign or repair that also includes programming and encoding the control modules, the programming procedure may only be invoiced one time. And, as necessary: Sublet – Bulk Materials Sublet Code 4 See sublet reimbursement calculation below Reimbursement for the repair-related bulk materials (Please do not use the part number(s) for claim submission) Sublet reimbursement calculation for claiming the used quantities of repair-related bulk materials (BMW part numbers) is at dealer net plus your centers handling. 1 BMW Antifreeze/Coolant: Claim the corresponding dollar amount for the quantity needed to replace what was drained with a 50/50 coolant/water solution. Enter this material cost in sublet and itemize the amount in the claim comment section. Programming and Encoding - Vehicle Control Units A. The programming procedure automatically reprograms and encodes all vehicle control modules which do not have the latest software i-level. If one or more control module failures occur during this programming procedure: Please claim this consequential control module-related repair work under the defect code listed in this bulletin with the applicable AIR labor operations. Please explain this additional work (The why and what) on the repair order and in the claim comments section. B. For control module failures that occurred prior to performing this programming procedure: When covered under an applicable limited warranty, claim this control module-related repair work using the applicable defect code and labor operations (including diagnosis) in AIR. Other Repairs If other eligible and covered work is performed as a result of performing the ISTA diagnostics and related test plans, claim this work with the applicable defect code and the labor operations (including diagnosis) that are listed in AIR. 2
