91 Laser for Audi Cruise Assist is restricted, DTC C12EBF3 stored in distance control module 91 19 77 2054301/2 August 14, 2019. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 19-48 dated March 15, 2019 for reasons listed below. A message for sensor blindness is displayed in the instrument cluster. Workshop findings: The following DTC may be stored in the control module for distance control, J428 (address word 0013): DTC C12EBF3 (laser for distance control, range recognition restricted) with symptom code 2406. Technical Background The laser for distance control sensor cannot penetrate a third party “Car-Bra” (Figure 1) or a protective workshop cover (Figure 2 and 3). This causes the system to indicate “blindness”. Note: A vinyl wrap if covering sensors could have an effect on the system. Figure 1. “Car-Bra”. Figure 2. Protective workshop cover. Check if the DTC time stamp coincides with the vehicle wearing a third party “Car-Bra” or having a protective cover on. 2. In these cases, clear the DTC. 3. If it is caused by a “Car-Bra”, instruct the customer that using it can cause the driver assistance systems to become inoperable. We suggest only to use Audi Genuine Accessories as they have been tested to work in conjunction with all the vehicle’s features.
