Introduction
Some 2012 – 2014 model year Camry Hybrid, and 2013 – 2015 model year Avalon Hybrid
vehicles may exhibit a condition where the brake, ABS, and/or TRAC warning lights are on and/or
a Check VSC message displays. One or more of the following specific Diagnostic Trouble Codes
(DTCs) C1391, C1252, C1256, or C1253 will be stored in the vehicle’s memory to be used as
verification. This condition may be caused by a small internal brake fluid leak in the brake booster
assembly with master cylinder. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address
this condition.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY
 This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36
months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.
 Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in
this bulletin.

Repair Procedure
Confirm the condition exists.
Are the brake, ABS, and/or TRAC warning lights ON and/or does a Check VSC
message display?

YES — Continue to step 2.

NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
2. Using Techstream, check for and record ANY stored DTCs.
Are ANY of the following DTCs stored: C1391, C1252, C1256, or C1253?

YES — Continue to step 3.

NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
Remove the brake booster assembly with master cylinder.
Refer to TIS, applicable model and model year Repair Manual:

2012 / 2013 / 2014 Camry HV:
Brake – Brake System – “Brake System (Other): Brake Booster: Removal”

2013 / 2014 / 2015 Avalon HV:
Brake – Brake System – “Brake System (Other): Brake Booster: Removal”
Remove the brake booster pump assembly.
Refer to TIS, applicable model and model year Repair Manual:


2013 / 2014 / 2015 Avalon HV:

Install the NEW brake booster assembly with master cylinder.
