Technical Background If the sunroof panel is opened in any way while the vehicle is exposed to water (rain, car wash, or standing water on the roof panel) for however brief a period of time. It is possible for water to enter the sunroof opening that is not designed for exposure to water, breach the normal water channeling, and leak into the cabin area. This water intrusion may not manifest itself immediately but may appear after a driving period when the water migrates to the underside of the headliner area (Figure 2-4). Figure 2. Service Make no repairs for this condition. The sunroof mechanism and its drainage system are functioning normally. Ask the customer if it is at all possible that the sunroof was open in any way (vented position or open position) during rain, carwash, or when standing water was on top of the vehicle such as after it has rained. Please explain to the customer that the sunroof panel should never be opened until both the vehicle and the weather conditions are dry.
