Page 1 of 4 TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN Poor A/C Performance - Evaporator Housing Can Now Be Serviced Separately From The Climate Control Housing Assembly/Add Cabin Air Filter 19-2388 19 December 2019 This bulletin supersedes 19-2166. Reason for update: New Part/Procedure For Same Condition Model: Ford 2015-2019 Transit Summary This article supersedes TSB 19-2166 to update the Parts List and Service Procedure. Issue: Some 2015-2019 Transit vehicles may exhibit poor air conditioning (A/C) performance. If the cause of this is found to be a refrigerant leak from the evaporator, this may be due to build up of contaminates inside the evaporator housing. To correct this concern, replace only the evaporator housing and install a cabin air filter as opposed to replacing the entire climate control housing assembly. Repair/Claim Coding Causal Part: 18A484 Condition Code: 42 Service Procedure NOTE: Some Transit vehicles that have had a heater core repair and system flush or were built on or after 02-Jan-2019 may be using Motorcraft Yellow Antifreeze/Coolant. If Motorcraft Yellow Antifreeze/Coolant is found in the vehicle, service with the same coolant. 1. Inspect the A/C system. Does the system show signs of leaks in components other than the evaporator? (1). Yes – this article does not apply. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 412-00. (2). No – proceed to Step 2. 2. Remove the climate control housing. Refer to WSM, Section 412-00. 3. Remove the retaining clip from the bottom of the housing. Remove the 3 retaining screws and separate the blower motor case from the evaporator housing. (Figure 1 Callout 2) 5. Attach the blower motor case to the new evaporator housing and install the 3 retaining screws. Tighten the 3 retaining screws to 3.7 Nm +/- 0.6 (32.75 lb-in +/- 5.31). 6. Install the remaining clip. 7. Reinstall the climate control housing. Refer to WSM, Section 412-00. 9. Inform the customer the vehicle is now equipped with a cabin air filter that will require maintenance every 32,000 km (20,000 miles).
