Seatbelt Automatic Locking Retractor Operation
Customer Voice:
•
A customer may report that the seatbelt won’t extend outward, it only retracts and a
ratchet locks the seatbelt from being extended.
Technical Description:
•
All current Jaguar Land Rover models sold in the North American market are
equipped with passenger seatbelt reels that have an Automatic Locking Retractor
(ALR) function. The ALR function is designed to allow a child car seat to be securely
lashed down in place using the vehicle’s seatbelt. The ALR is activated by fully
extending the seatbelt. Upon letting the seatbelt retract, a ratchet mechanism is
engage to stop the seatbelt reel from playing out any seatbelt material until the
seatbelt is near fully retracted and the ALR is disengaged.
Status:
•
•
•
Seatbelt reel assemblies have been replace where they were functioning normally
due to a lack of understanding on how the ALR function operates.
Before replacing a seatbelt reel assembly for not extending, please ensure that the
operation of the ALR function is understood.
If after a proper inspection, a seatbelt reel assembly requires replacement, please
submit an EPQR detailing the customer concern.
