SERVICE INFORMATION BULLETIN APPLICABILITY: SUBJECT: 2015-20MY WRX STI Steering Rack Assembly- Design Change NUMBER: 04-26-20 DATE: 12/03/20 INTRODUCTION: This Service Information Bulletin describes a design change to the replacement hydraulic-type steering gearbox (rack) assembly. The change was made to enhance efficiency during vehicle assembly. PRODUCTION CHANGE INFORMATION: The new steering gearbox assemblies were incorporated at the start of 2021MY vehicle production. PART INFORMATION: A plastic “Guide Chip” was added to the input shaft of the assembly to expedite proper spline alignment with the steering shaft during assembly as shown in the illustration below. When replacing the gearbox assembly in the field with one of these new parts (p.n. 34110VA132 or 34110VA141), remove the guide chip before installation. REMINDER: Always order the most up-to-date replacement parts based on the specific VIN being repaired. Other than removal of the guide chip, the service procedures for steering gearbox replacement remain unchanged. Always refer to the applicable Service Manual and review the full requirements of the repair being performed. The Service Manual procedures contain information critical to performing an effective repair the first time, every time. This includes but is not limited to important SAFETY precautions, inspection criteria, necessary special tools, required processes and related one-time-use parts needed for a complete and lasting repair.
