Stop Sale/Emissions Recall and Warranty Extension: 2014 Accord Plug-in Hybrid Ba ery Update
Today, March 26, 2021, American Honda is announcing a stop sale and emissions recall for certain 2014
Accord Plug-in Hybrid vehicles. The hybrid ba ery capacity may degrade without correctly illumina ng
the MIL as required.
In addi on, improperly manufactured ba eries may cause ba eries to prematurely deteriorate.
American Honda is therefore extending the warranty coverage on these ba eries to 12 years from the
original date of purchase or 200,000 miles, whichever comes first. Refer to your eResponsibility report or do
an iN VIN status inquiry to determine which units in your inventory are affected.
Failure to repair a vehicle as necessary prior to sale may subject your dealership to claims or lawsuits.
BACKGROUND
Due to an incorrect cell capacity se ng, the MIL may not illuminate when the ba ery falls below
acceptable capacity levels. A protec ve layer was also improperly applied during manufacturing which
may cause the ba ery to prematurely deteriorate causing the power system warning and MIL to
illuminate.
REPAIR
All affected vehicles must have the Ba ery ECU so ware updated first before the warranty extension will
apply.
PARTS
The so ware will be available at launch. Replacement ba eries under the warranty extension will also
be available at launch.
TOOLS
There are no special tools needed for this recall.

21-038, Warranty Extension: 2014 Accord Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) High Voltage Ba ery Pack Deteriora on have
been posted to the Service Informa on System (SIS) as of March 26, 2021. They include so ware,
inspec on, repair, parts, and warranty informa on related to these campaigns.
