Symptom/Vehicle Issue: Creak Noise From Front Of Vehicle
Customer Complaint/Technician Observation: Under body twist conditions like
entering a sloped driveway or uneven road surface a creak flex noise may be heard
from the front end of the vehicle. Noise may also be heard when turning the steering
wheel back and forth.
Discussion: Use of chassis ears can help isolate noise area. If the noise is identified

If the noise is in the area of the identified area in fig 1, inspect the laminated sheet metal and the spot
welds. If the laminated area has gaps in the layers the metal can flex causing a creak noise. The
layers should be clamped tight with no gaps. It may be necessary to drill out the spot welds using a
spot weld cutter, tightly clamp and perform rosette welds to secure the lamination joint. Following any
metal work or welding, proper corrosion coating and paint application is required. If your facility does
not perform body repairs a body specialty collision repair shop can be consulted.
Note screws are used to maintain part to part alignment while welding work is performed.
