AND Fuse # 14 is found open (or “blown”). NOTE: This issue applies to both captain and bench type second row heated seating. ACTION: 1. Repair the right side second row seat: a. Clean off welding spatter on the seat hinge (the cause of harness damage), and then apply protective covering on the seat hinge. b. Repair the damaged seat harness wiring or replace the seat harness as necessary. • For repairs, refer to SERVICE PROCEDURE starting on page 3. See your Infiniti dealer to determine if this applies to your vehicle. 1/12 1 2nd Example of row RH heated seat 2/12 ITB13-042 SERVICE PROCEDURE Second Row RH Captain and Bench Type Seat Harness Wiring Repair NOTES: • Pictures are taken from a QX56 with bench type second row heated seating. Captain seats are similar. • Although most repairs are shown performed with the seat in the vehicle, repairs can be performed on a clean work bench with suitable covering. • If repairs are performed in the vehicle, the RH seat and seatback will need to be repositioned multiple times depending on which step is being performed. • The seat will need to be removed if the seat harness needs to be replaced. • Protect interior surfaces around the seat with suitable covering before starting the repair procedure. 1. Unzip the inner and outer seatback zippers. • The ends of both zippers are tucked within the seat trim. Second row RH seatback Inner zipper shown partially tucked in Figure 1 Figure 2 2. Unclip the full length of the bottom portion of the seatback trim with a suitable tool, and then peel it up and out of the way. Figure 3 3/12 ITB13-042 3. Unsnap both clips (one on each side), and then peel down the lower portion of the seat trim. LH clip and clip hole Lower seat trim Figure 4 4. Similar to step 2, unclip the full length of the seat cushion trim, and then peel it down and out of the way. Figure 5 5. Unfasten the lower cushion where secured by hook-and-loop (or “Velcro” type) fasteners by peeling them apart. Hook-and-loop Figure 6 4/12 ITB13-042 6. Unsnap the rear clips of the “reclining device outer cover inner” (or inner cover). Inner cover Figure 7 7. Unsnap the top clips of the inner cover. Figure 8 8. Similar to step 2 and 4, unclip the lengths of the seat cushion trim on each side, and then peel them out of their grooves. Figure 9 Figure 10 5/12 ITB13-042 9. Carefully peel back the seat cushion trim and pad toward the front of the seat. Figure 11 10. With the inner cover already detached, remove it by rotating clockwise and downward, and then removing from the backside of the seat (see Figure 12 and 13). • The inner cover will need to be lifted above the LATCH anchor while rotating. NOTE: This inner cover will not be reused and will be replaced by one with a new design (see PARTS INFORMATION). Figure 12 Lift inner cover over LATCH anchor Figure 13 6/12 ITB13-042 11. Inspect for and remove all weld spatter in the area where noted in Figure 15. • Using a suitable hammer and chisel as shown in Figure 16, carefully chip off all spatter. ¾ Do NOT chisel in an angle or direction other than shown in Figure 16. NOTE: Make sure to use sufficient protective covering on and around the seat. CAUTION: Do NOT use a grinding type tool as the removed material may get into the reclining device. Figure 14 WARNING: Use suitable eye protection when chiseling. 12. Smooth off the chiseled areas and sharp edge with suitable sandpaper, and then clean off the area shown in Figure 15. Apply a piece of 25 mm x 100 mm (1 inch x 4 inch) tape where shown in Figure 17 and 18. …and then follow this edge • Use the tape listed in PARTS INFORMATION. • Make sure to wrap the tape around the edge as shown in Figure 18. 14. Determine if the wiring in the seat harness can be repaired. • • If only one wire needs repairing, proceed with repairing the one wire, and then go to step 15 below. ¾ Repair the wire only as outlined in ITB03-054. Start tape here… Figure 17 If two or more wires need repair, replace the seat harness. ¾ Go to Replace Seat Harness on the next page before going to step 15 below. 15. Install the new inner cover (see PARTS INFORMATION). • Route the seat harness as allowed by the new inner cover. Wrap tape around this edge 16. Reassemble the second row RH seat in reverse order of disassembly. Figure 18 17. If the seat was removed, install it. • Seat mounting nuts AND bolts torque: 40 N•m (4.1 kg-m, 30 ft lbs) 18. Replace the # 14 fuse. 19. Verify the repair. 8/12 ITB13-042 If Needed: Replace Seat Harness NOTES: • • The seat harness is to be replaced only if two or more wires are damaged. If the seat is still mounted in the vehicle, it will now need to be removed for harness replacement. 1. Remove the seat: a. Remove the hinge cover, and then remove the two bolts behind it. b. Raise the seat, lift the trim, and then disconnect the seat harness. c. Remove the two nuts, and then remove the seat. • Trim, nuts, and harness Perform seat repairs on a clean surface such connector as a work bench with suitable covering. Bolts and hinge cover Figure 19 3. Slide the four clips to line them up with the holes, and then move the seatback board out of the way. 4. Disconnect the seat harness from the seatback heater unit’s electrical connector (hidden behind the seatback board). Clips Seatback heater unit connector 9/12 Figure 20 ITB13-042 6. Unsnap both outer reclining covers from the seat cushion under cover as shown below, and then carefully remove the seat cushion under cover.
