Updates have been made on all pages. Please discard previous versions of this bulletin. APPLIED VEHICLE: 2013 – 2014 Altima Sedan (L33) equipped with LDW and BSW SERVICE INFORMATION This bulletin contains supplemental diagnostic information related to 2013 and 2014 Altima Sedan equipped with the Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Blind Spot Warning (BSW) systems. Although the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) should be the primary source of information for inspection, Diagnosis, and repair, the Supplemental Diagnosis information in this bulletin will assist in these areas. The information in this bulletin includes: • What to check / inspect first when a BSW / LDW related warning is shown in the Vehicle Information Display • What to check / inspect first when the BSW and/or LDW lights are flashing, and/or DTCs are stored • Additional ITS Information that is helpful for system diagnostics. • Possible error codes that may display on the navigation screen during “Affordable ITS Camera” calibration. Nissan Bulletins are intended for use by qualified technicians, not 'do-it-yourselfers'. Qualified technicians are properly trained individuals who have the equipment, tools, safety instruction, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. NOTE: If you believe that a described condition may apply to a particular vehicle, DO NOT assume that it does. See your Nissan dealer to determine if this applies to your vehicle. 1/5 LDW/BSW Supplemental Diagnosis If a 2013 or 2014 Altima Sedan is presented with one or more of the following items, perform the Preliminary Checks on the next page. • Message “Malfunction – See Owner’s Manual” with LDW / BSW icons showing in the Vehicle Information Display (including but not limited to what shows in Figure 1) Vehicle Information Display Figure 1 • LDW / BSW lights to the left of the Vehicle Information Display are flashing • LDW / BSW / MOD (Moving Object Detection) related DTCs are found stored • LDW / BSW does not meet customer expectations (possibly related to environmental issues i.e. rain, etc.) 2/5 NTB13-057a Preliminary Checks 1. Resolve DTCs for non ITS (Intelligent Technology Suite) first. • Issues with other systems may trip a BSW / LDW related DTC due to improper communication. Resolve the cause of any DTCs for other systems first. Once the non ITS DTCs are resolved, check for BSW / LDW related lights / DTCs again. 2. If DTC U1308 is stored; check the following possible causes: • Part(s) have been replaced: ¾ RR camera ¾ ITS controller • Disconnected / loose connections: ¾ RR camera ¾ ITS controller ¾ ITS switch • Wrong part installed (may show error 2 when calibrating): ¾ RR camera is not ITS camera ¾ Dash switch 3. Refer to the Additional ITS Information on the next page for details that may help with diagnostics. 4. Continue diagnosis / repairs using the ESM. 3/5 NTB13-057a Additional ITS Information • IBA (Intelligent Brake Assist) light may turn ON if the ITS controller is disconnected. • ITS system is sensitive to heavy rains and wet surfaces (this is stated in the Owner’s Manual). Customer comments may state that the system is not working properly or note that the system shuts off when no objects exist. ¾ Example: The camera unit detects reflected images of vehicles or roadside objects that are not actually in the detection zone, especially when the road is wet. ¾ Refer to “BSW driving situations” in the “Starting and driving” section of the Owner’s Manual. • LDW / BSW white icons in dash will blink if the system is temporarily disabled. The “clean camera” message may also appear in the Vehicle Information Display. Normally, this is due to low washer fluid level. “Washer Fluid Low” warning will appear in the Vehicle Information Display. If LDW / BSW white icons in dash blink and/or the “clean camera” message appears in the Vehicle Information Display and washer fluid is OK, test the washer pump related to the camera cleaning system located in the trunk. Other possible causes to check would be the pump ECU in the trunk and/or washer hoses, making sure fluid is properly getting to the camera cleaning system. • “Initialize Camera Image Calibration” in CONSULT III plus: Do not use this feature unless instructed by NNA personnel i.e. TECH LINE, etc. • When a NAVI system has been replaced, it is possible that ITS concern items may have been disconnected or triggered. Check for DTCs and if necessary, recalibrate the ITS system. 4/5 NTB13-057a Possible Errors Codes for “Affordable ITS Camera” Calibration The following error codes may display on the navigation screen during “Affordable ITS Camera” calibration. IMPORTANT: In addition to the items listed under Possible Cause/Remedy, if any of the following errors display, re-measure and align targets, accurately place them again, and make sure the orientation of the targets is correct. Error Code Possible Cause / Remedy Error 2 Wrong serial connection detected from rear camera / check for wrong part Error 11 Center target is orientated incorrectly or out of position Error 12 Left target marker not detected Error 13 Left or right target or both orientated incorrectly or in the wrong position Error 21 Center target marker is dirty / clean the target Error 22 Left target marker is dirty / clean the target Error 23 Right target marker is dirty. Targets are orientated correctly but in the wrong position / clean target, reposition Error 51 Yaw angle error.
