• Recall 115238 [USA]: If fuel leaks from between the fuel sending unit and the tank, it may increase the risk of a fire in the event of a crash.
  Nissan north america, inc. (nissan) notified the agency on july 31, 2015, that they are recalling certain model year 2016 nissan maxima vehicles manufactured february 10, 2015, to august 18, 2015. On october 14, 2015, nissan expanded the recall to cover an additional 41,388 vehicles, including certain model year 2013-2015 altima 3.5 vehicles equipped with a v6 engine manufactured march 30, 2012, to august 18, 2015 as well as the vehicles covered by the july 31, 2015 notification. In the affected vehicles, due to an improperly installed o-ring that may not have been seated correctly at the time of assembly, fuel may leak during a crash from the area where the fuel sending unit attaches to the fuel tank.

  In response to the office of defects investigations (odis) information request (ir) letter dated december 6, 2018, nissan provide an interim response on january 18, 2019, and a final response on february 1, 2019. The majority of the nissan and odi failure reports are from vehicles registered in so called "salt belt" states. No crashes, injuries or fatalities have been confirmed as of this date.Nissans ir response indicated the my 2013 through early 2018 nissan altima shared a common rear lower control arm design. Accordingly odi has expanded the scope of the investigation to include all potentially affected vehicles. Nissan reported implementing a design change in january 2018 to improve the durability of the lower control arm, and also provided an analysis indicating that the design change resulted in a significant (which nissan estimated between 5 to 9 times) improvement to its durability.Nissan acknowledges that a crack may develop in the lower control arm due to stress and loading from normal use of the vehicle, and that road salts commonly used for snow and ice treatment results in corrosion that exacerbates growth and progression of the crack. Once the crack develops, continued use of the vehicle causes the control arm to separate at one of four attachment points that connect it to the vehicle chassis. Nissan determined the current incident rate was 0.003%. Based on testing it conducted as well as observations from field failures, nissan maintains the separation, whether it occurs either statically or while in motion, is readily detectable, that the separated component does not contact the road surface or braking components, and that the vehicle remains controllable and can be safely brought to a stop. Nissan states that due to low incident rate, high detectability, and low risk of adverse vehicle dynamics, it does not believe the subject control arm failure poses an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety.Nonetheless, nissan has indicated its intentions to conduct a non-safety, proactive field action for my 2013 altima in specific states with high salt usage. Launch of the potential action would be in phases, likely beginning in late 2019 in salt belt states with higher incident rates, and would involve replacement of the lower control arms. Components recovered from the field action are expected to be used to study additional remedy options.During the engineering analysis, odi will continue to collect and analyze complaint and field data in its efforts to fully assess the scope and frequency of the alleged defect. The contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. The contact stated while driving out of the driveway, she heard an abnormal sound coming from underneath the vehicle. The contact stated upon checking the vehicle, she noticed that the driver’s side rear wheel was turned inward and that the control arm had detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the control arm was fractured, and the failure was related to an unknown recall. The dealer was made aware of the failure and informed that the vehicle could not be repaired under the unknown recall as the vin was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the manufactured date of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.

The original transmission on this car failed and i had it replaced at a nissan dealership. In less than two years, the new transmission also failed. I was driving on the highway and transmission gave up and the vehicle would not accelerate putting my life and others' life in danger/unsafe. I contacted nissan consumer/customer service and the case manager was not helpful and literally, stonewalled my concerns. Gross negligence by nissan about the vehicle owners and their safety. The nissan altima cars that were manufactured between 2013-2015 are pure lemons.

I’ve had numerous vehicles of varying models and types. My vehicle only has 115k miles and the front control arms are gone. Live near beaches so due to salt and corrosion etc. This should not happen

Headlights on the dim projector failed internally where you can't see at night on dim setting. Several forums online with same complaint.

Rear right control arm broke away from the frame. My mechanic said this was due to corrosion due to salt. The nissan dealer said a selective “ service campaign was conducted but was only for certain vin’s in certain states. I live in one of those states but was told corrective action had to do with the original delivery destination for the car but not the final delivery location ( medina, oh). I’ve read the same issues have occurred over and over but nissan refuses to acknowledge it is widespread. The say it has only affected .003 % of cars. This number is low because most people don’t know they have an issue until it’s too late. At a minimum an inspection needs to be performed on all 2013 altima’s to determine if there is an issue.

Both headlight low beams are dangerously dim even after replacing the bulbs. Its not possible to see at night while driving unless using high beams to see. Took the vehicle to the dealership afterwards and it was determined the materials in the headlight assembly have deteriorated in both assemblies.

Car stalled on highway in 1st lane. Car jerking, stalling, not starting. Found recall on cvt transmissions on car. Nissan consumer affairs refuse to honor recall. States recall closed. Car not drivable. Being fixed at firestone repair. Begged nissan consumer affairs because of my safety to please fix. Spoke with 2 managers who would not honor closed past campaign!!! Told them i am a 60 yr old woman now to scarred to drive car. Had no choice but to have it fixed which i cannot afford.

The contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. The contact stated while driving at 45 mph, approaching a stop light the vehicle began to jerk back and forth, the contact was able to stop the vehicle and turn the steering wheel to the right side of a merging lane to avoid oncoming traffic. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer who inspected the vehicle and diagnosed the failure with the transmission and it would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately mileage 153,000.

1. The vehicle component that failed was the transmission. The manner in which it failed was total, rendering the vehicle unable to move under its own power. This failure occurred while moving in traffic on a heavily trafficked divided highway. 2. The driver and other occupant of the vehicle were put at great personal risk by being in a disabled vehicle amidst surrounding traffic moving at 40-60 mph. Occupants of an additional vehicle that stopped behind the disabled vehicle were also put at great personal risk for the same reason. Law enforcement officers who arrived to assist were required to block multiple lanes of oncoming traffic with their duty vehicles.
