SERVICE INFORMATION
If a CVT appears to have oil seepage or a leak on the transmission, follow the steps below
to assist in a correct diagnosis.
1.
2.
3.
4.
Thoroughly clean off the area of the suspected leak.
Install one (1) fluid ounce of J-52990 Fluorescent Oil Dye* into the CVT.
Drive the vehicle for a minimum of 10 minutes (to ensure proper diagnosis).
Inspect the area with the lamp from the J-43926 A/C Dye Kit.*
 If a fluorescent oil trace/leak is not found, the stain is likely:

corrosion protection chemicals sprayed on the transmission,
and/or

lubricants, which are sometimes used to ease the assembly process.
NOTE: The chemicals/lubricants may cause dust to accumulate (gather) on the
transmission and have the appearance of an oil leak. Corrective action is not
required should this occur.
 If a fluorescent oil trace/leak is found:

Repair using standard warranty procedures.
*These tools were made Essential in 2001 (J-52990) and 1999 (J-43926). To order
additional supplies, call TechꞏMate at 1-800-662-2001 or visit www.nissantechmate.com.
NOTE: The Fluorescent Oil Dye is also available in a pack of six 1-ounce bottles (part
number J-52990-6).
Nissan Bulletins are intended for use by qualified technicians, not 'do-it-yourselfers'. Qualified technicians are
properly trained individuals who have the equipment, tools, safety instruction, and know-how to do a job
properly and safely. NOTE: If you believe that a described condition may apply to a particular vehicle, DO
NOT assume that it does. See your Nissan dealer to determine if this applies to your vehicle.
