  Nissan north america, inc. (nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2018 nissan altima vehicles. If the primary hood latch is inadvertently released, there is an increased likelihood that the secondary hood latch may corrode over time.
  nissan will notify owners, and dealers will install a stronger release spring in the hood release lever, a warning label near the secondary hood latch, and an owner?S manual addendum card with instructions on how to lubricate and maintain the secondary hood latch mechanism, free of charge. The door latch-lock cable may not have been routed properly in the rear door when the remedy was applied. As a result, the cable may interfere with the window regulator causing the rear passenger door to unlatch and inadvertently open without warning when the window is lowered.

• Recall 115240 [USA]: If fuel leaks from between the fuel sending unit and the tank, it may increase the risk of a fire in the event of a crash.
  Nissan north america, inc. (nissan) notified the agency on july 31, 2015, that they are recalling certain model year 2016 nissan maxima vehicles manufactured february 10, 2015, to august 18, 2015. On october 14, 2015, nissan expanded the recall to cover an additional 41,388 vehicles, including certain model year 2013-2015 altima 3.5 vehicles equipped with a v6 engine manufactured march 30, 2012, to august 18, 2015 as well as the vehicles covered by the july 31, 2015 notification. In the affected vehicles, due to an improperly installed o-ring that may not have been seated correctly at the time of assembly, fuel may leak during a crash from the area where the fuel sending unit attaches to the fuel tank.

  Issue: over time, corrosion could cause the secondary hood latch to stick in the open position after it is used. If this happens, and the primary hood latch is released, the hood may open suddenly while driving. Safety risk: a hood that opens suddenly while driving could block the driver's view and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: nissan will notify owners by mail and provide an update to the owner's manual instruction for how to properly maintain the hood latch. Nissan will instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the hood release lever spring. The dealer will also install a hood latch maintenance warning label.

• Desiccated air bag inflator rupture investigation # EA21002

  From 2000 through 2017, takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("psan") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004l. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 blomquist report at www.Nhtsa.Gov/sites/nhtsa.Gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.Pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in us vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004l that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All takata inflators produced with propellant 2004l contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated psan inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- takata (now known as tk global), the independent testing coalition, and exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of takata desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004l (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004l is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l.The office of defects investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated psan frontal inflators manufactured by takata. This investigation will require extensive information on takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. • Rear suspension control arm failure investigation # EA19002

  In response to the office of defects investigations (odis) information request (ir) letter dated december 6, 2018, nissan provide an interim response on january 18, 2019, and a final response on february 1, 2019. The majority of the nissan and odi failure reports are from vehicles registered in so called "salt belt" states. No crashes, injuries or fatalities have been confirmed as of this date.Nissans ir response indicated the my 2013 through early 2018 nissan altima shared a common rear lower control arm design. Accordingly odi has expanded the scope of the investigation to include all potentially affected vehicles. Nissan reported implementing a design change in january 2018 to improve the durability of the lower control arm, and also provided an analysis indicating that the design change resulted in a significant (which nissan estimated between 5 to 9 times) improvement to its durability.Nissan acknowledges that a crack may develop in the lower control arm due to stress and loading from normal use of the vehicle, and that road salts commonly used for snow and ice treatment results in corrosion that exacerbates growth and progression of the crack. Once the crack develops, continued use of the vehicle causes the control arm to separate at one of four attachment points that connect it to the vehicle chassis. Nissan determined the current incident rate was 0.003%. Based on testing it conducted as well as observations from field failures, nissan maintains the separation, whether it occurs either statically or while in motion, is readily detectable, that the separated component does not contact the road surface or braking components, and that the vehicle remains controllable and can be safely brought to a stop. Nissan states that due to low incident rate, high detectability, and low risk of adverse vehicle dynamics, it does not believe the subject control arm failure poses an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety.Nonetheless, nissan has indicated its intentions to conduct a non-safety, proactive field action for my 2013 altima in specific states with high salt usage. Launch of the potential action would be in phases, likely beginning in late 2019 in salt belt states with higher incident rates, and would involve replacement of the lower control arms. Components recovered from the field action are expected to be used to study additional remedy options.During the engineering analysis, odi will continue to collect and analyze complaint and field data in its efforts to fully assess the scope and frequency of the alleged defect. Driver's air bag light came on, staying on. I took it to the dealer on appointment. After having vehicle 2 days, they were unable run diagnostic tests, too busy. I was told to bring it back next week. It seemed that he was hesitant to proceed because of the probability of not easily finding the problem even with diagnostics. I called another dealer and he patiently explained the numerous tests involved in tracing down the problem only to often not identify the exact problem resulting in additional costs to the consumer sometimes at great expense. He did say the air bag will not deploy if the warning light is engaged. I feel this is a safety defect that should be recalled. The manufacturer should ensure that their repairman have the ability to quickly identify the source of the problem. At present this is not a recall item. I am reluctant to proceed with repairs that have so many unknowns yet also afraid to dirve the vehicle in its current state.

I was in turning lane and when traffic cleared enough to turn i pushed gas, and nothing happened it was just idle, no rpm, no movement let go of gas pushed again barely moved and then didn’t go anywhere. Oncoming traffic at that point was approaching then it engaged and was fine! It did it two more times as i was sitting at light and once while just driving

The lights on the vehicle are too dim which are a safety hazard, making it difficult to see at night.

Just purchased this car used from a dealer. Upon driving it at night i’ve found the low beam headlights are significantly dim. This is a serious safety concern.After doing research on this issue i’ve found that the reflector bulbs inside the headlight assy burn off the reflective coating thereby rendering the bulbs ability to broad at light very poor.

Hello, i have a 2015 nissan altima. I was driving my son to school on may 28, 2021 when my car began uncontrollably shaking. I had to pull over and stop. I took it to a garage in pleasantville, pa as there is not a nissan certified dealership near me. The closest one is 1 hour away in erie, pa which is where i purchased the vehicle. The garage told me the rear control arm broke. I did some research and the internet is full of information regarding recalls for this same exact issue in the 2013 and 2014 models. Especially in areas that are highly salted in the winter time, which northwestern pa is. A quick reviewof the 2013 to 2015 nissan altima model will show you there is not much difference in the models. The difference is mine is a bit newer and the rear control arm should have never broke. I contacted nissan via email and they stated that there is no recall and therefore nothing they can do. I persisted and they said they would have a specialist review the case. I spoke with the specialist on the phone and they stated that they may be able to reimburse me for the part but not the labor since i didn't take it to a nissan garage. I explained to them that the closest garage is an hour a way and so then on top of that, they would have (or i would have) had to pay a tow bill of over $200 as well. There is no reason this should have broke and is a huge safety concern. My son and i were in danger when this broke, which is why the 2013 models have had a recall on this part. The fact this is a 2015 is irrelevant because it's even newer than a 2013 and still broke, so there should be a recall. Luckily i was on a highway going pretty slow compared to an interstate. I most definietly would have crashed my car if i would have been on the interstate or going any faster than i was. Please consider declaring a recall. Thank you for your time.

Airbag light remains on after being checked

Uknown. There is a metal piece under the vehicle that has broken and now scrapes the ground making the vehicle undriveable as this is a safety hazard for sparks and fire. The problem is persistent. The vehicle has not been inspected yet. No warning lights or messages appeared. I was driving in my neighborhood all of a sudden heard a terrible metal grinding noise coming from under my vehicle. I got out and looked and could see something metal had broke and is now dragging the pavement.

The headlight assemblies "chrome" reflective material for the low beam bulbs has faded and blackened. This has resulted in very low light being emitted from the low beam light setting. This is a very dangerous problem that nissan needs to address.
