Classification: Reference: MT13-001b Date: NTB13-026b February 26, 2015 370Z COUPE AND ROADSTER; CLUTCH PEDAL DOES NOT RETURN TO REST POSITION This bulletin has been amended under ACTION, SERVICE INFORMATION, and CLAIMS INFORMATION. Discard all previous versions of this bulletin. APPLIED VEHICLES: 2009 - 2013 370Z Coupe (Z34 series) 2010 - 2013 370Z Roadster (Z34 series) APPLIED TRANSMISSION: 6 speed manual transmission IF YOU CONFIRM: The clutch pedal on an applied vehicle does not return to its normal (rested) position after being depressed to the floor OR The customer states the clutch pedal on an applied vehicle does not return to its normal (rested) position after being depressed to the floor AND There are no leaks in the clutch hydraulic system. ACTION: Flush (remove) ALL existing clutch hydraulic system fluid, and refill with GT-R R35 Special Brake Fluid (see PARTS INFORMATION). Use the SERVICE PROCEDURE in this bulletin for proper flush and refill procedure. IMPORTANT: The purpose of ACTION (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire SERVICE PROCEDURE as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair. Nissan Bulletins are intended for use by qualified technicians, not 'do-it-yourselfers'. Qualified technicians are properly trained individuals who have the equipment, tools, safety instruction, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. NOTE: If you believe that a described condition may apply to a particular vehicle, DO NOT assume that it does. See your Nissan dealer to determine if this applies to your vehicle. 1/5 SERVICE PROCEDURE Clutch Hydraulic Fluid Flush/Removal and Refill Procedure CAUTION: Make sure the clutch fluid level in the reservoir tank (reservoir) does not become empty. Cover fenders and painted areas to protect them from possible clutch/brake fluid splashing. If clutch/brake fluid is spilled on any painted surface, immediately wipe off with a soft cloth and wash with water. Keep contamination from entering the reservoir. Appropriately clean out all contamination immediately. NOTE: This procedure requires two (2) technicians to properly flush and refill the clutch hydraulic system. Do not use a vacuum assist or any other type of power bleeder on this system. Use of a vacuum assist or power bleeder will not purge all the air from the system. Store brake fluid in an area that is dark, low humidity, and cold. Refill the reservoir slowly and directly from the original container. If air bubbles are created when filling the reservoir, wait until they disappear before bleeding. 2/5 NTB13-026b 1. Remove all fluid from the reservoir with a suitable suction tool. Remove all contamination in the reservoir with a clean, lint-free cloth. Suction tool Figure 1 2. Fill the reservoir with GT-R R35 Special Brake Fluid (see PARTS INFORMATION). Fill up to the full or “MAX” line. CAUTION: Never reuse drained clutch fluid. “MAX” line Figure 2 3/5 NTB13-026b 3. Attach a transparent vinyl tube with a “catch” container to the clutch bleeder valve. 4. With the first technician in the vehicle raised on a lift, fully depress and release the clutch pedal at least five (5) times. Hold the clutch pedal all the way down the last time it is depressed. 5. Second technician: With the clutch pedal fully depressed by the first technician, loosen (open) the bleeder valve to release old fluid. NOTE: Air may also release along with the fluid. This is okay. Second technician: With the clutch pedal still fully depressed by the first technician, tighten (close) the bleeder valve. Bleeder valve torque: 4.5•Nm (0.46 kg-m, 40 in-lb) 7. First technician: Release clutch pedal and wait 5 seconds. NOTE: The clutch pedal may “stick” to the floor, and more than once. Pull up the clutch pedal as needed to continue the flushing procedure. 8. Perform steps 4-6 a total of five (5) times, or until the reservoir is almost empty. Refill the reservoir each time with GT-R R35 Special Brake Fluid (see PARTS INFORMATION). 9. Perform step 8 (nearly emptying the reservoir) a total of four (4) times. NOTE: The clutch hydraulic system holds 90 ml of fluid. Step 8 must be performed 4 times to flush/remove all 90 ml of the old fluid. 10. When done flushing the clutch hydraulic system, verify the reservoir’s fluid level is within the specified range. 4/5 NTB13-026b PARTS INFORMATION DESCRIPTION PART # QUANTITY GT-R R35 SPECIAL BRAKE FLUID ** KN9U0-40001P (1) (2) ** GT-R R35 Special Brake Fluid is available through the Nissan Maintenance Advantage program: Phone: 877-NIS-NMA1 (877-647-6621).
