Field Update Notice # 74B256
Dash CF PUC Pump Dipstick
Pierce has determined some Dash CF models have the incorrect length dipstick installed on the PUC pump.
Issue:
The dipstick is 1.43” shorter than it should be which is causing the fire pump transmission to be over filled. Over
time, if the dipstick isn’t corrected, it may cause excessive heat and may cause the fire pump to fail.
Darley will send a replacement dipstick directly to the customer at no charge, along with instructions on when and
how to change the dipstick. See attached.
This dipstick update should be changed at the next scheduled fire pump transmission oil change, adjusting to the
correct oil level at that time. The recommended oil change schedule can be found in the Pierce Fire Pump Manual
#PM-P-OM420-0413.
A list of trucks in your area can be found at www.pierceparts.com. If you have any questions or concerns about this
remedy, contact Pierce Customer Service at 1-888-974-3723.

pump.
Units Affected: Dash CF Pumper and Aerial
Author:

Overview:
The current fire pump dipstick that is installed on the fire apparatus was not designed correctly
to provide the correct oil level. The dipstick is 1.43” shorter than it should be which is causing
the fire pump transmission to be over filled.
Over time, if the dipstick isn’t corrected, it may cause excessive heat and may cause the fire
pump to fail.
This dipstick update should be changed at your next scheduled fire pump transmission oil
change. Reference the Pierce Fire Pump Manual #PM-P-OM420-0413 for the duration between
oil changes.
Required Parts: Updated dipstick for Dash CF Pumper and Aerial Products. Reference
Appendix A.
Instructions:
1. Verify the new dipstick is the correct one. Reference Appendix A.
2. Follow the instruction label on how to raise the fire apparatus cab.
3. On the PS of the fire apparatus and under the lower crosslays there will be a dipstick
assembly. See below.
4. Remove the current dipstick from the tube assembly that is installed on the fire pump
transmission.
5. Insert the new dipstick, which was sent from customer service, in the tube assembly.
6. Reference the Pierce Fire Pump Manual #PM-P-OM420-0413 on how to change the oil in
the fire pump transmission.
7. Change the oil in the fire pump transmission. Fill the fire pump transmission to the full
mark based off of the new dipstick that was just installed.
8. You are now complete with the dipstick update. Please disregard the old dipstick.
