Issue: Some 2015-2019 Transit vehicles equipped with a 3.7L engine and block heater may exhibit a repeat coolant
leak from a deteriorated O-ring and/or intake manifold thermostat housing. This may be due to the block heater in the
thermostat housing. To correct the condition, install a block heater service kit in the engine block.
Action: Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition if the vehicle meets all of the following criteria:
• 2015-2019 Transit
• 3.7L engine
• Equipped with a block heater in the thermostat housing
• Coolant leak from thermostat housing

Service Procedure
1. Remove the existing cooling system block heater and wire harness from the thermostat housing. Refer to
Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-03A.
2. Remove the thermostat housing. Refer to WSM, Section 303-03A.
3. Inspect the thermostat housing, thermostat housing O-ring seal, and intake manifold tube for damage and replace
as necessary. Refer to WSM, Section 303-03A.
4. Install the immersion block heater and harness kit. Refer to the instruction sheet included in the kit.
5. Fill and bleed the cooling system. Refer to WSM, Section 303-03A, General Procedures, Engine Cooling System
Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding.
