January 5, 2022 ATTENTION: ALL DEALER PRINCIPALS Kia America, Inc., is extending the New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage for the Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS) unit, also known as Electronic Power Steering (EPS) unit, from 5 years/60,000 miles to 15 years/150,000 miles, whichever comes first, starting from the date the vehicle was first put into service. The power steering uses a motor to assist in steering the vehicle. If the engine is off or if the power steering system becomes inoperative, the vehicle may be steered, but it will require increased steering effort by the driver. This warranty extension is to address specific concerns with the functionality of the MDPS unit. This New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage is applicable on the following vehicles: • 2016-2017 MY Sorento vehicles manufactured from October 27, 2014 through April 13, 2017 • 2016-2017 MY Optima vehicles manufactured from August 28, 2015 through May 2, 2017 • 2017 MY Optima HEV/PHEV vehicles manufactured from June 27, 2016 through July 6, 2017 If, at any time during the extended warranty coverage, the customer’s vehicle exhibits illumination of the EPS warning light, Kia authorizes its dealers to diagnose and, if the diagnosis indicates the condition is caused by one of the components covered by this warranty extension, the specific failed component will be covered at Kia’s expense at no cost to the customer. The Technical Service Bulletin that provides vehicle repair procedures will be posted on the Kia Global Information System (KGIS) at www.kiatechinfo.com, and the Warranty Bulletin describing this warranty extension will be posted on kdealer.com during the week of January 5, 2022. OWNER NOTIFICATION Kia will notify owners advising them of the warranty extension program beginning on January 7, 2022. Note that owners who have incurred expenses to remedy this issue prior to the date of this notice may have the opportunity to obtain reimbursement for that expense by mailing the Request for Reimbursement Form along with their documentation to Kia for review and consideration.
