Workshop findings:
The original water pump has a cover fitted directly over the top of the water pump drive gear (Figure 1)

However the replacement water pump does not have a cover fitted (Figure 2)

Technical background
The cover is no longer fitted on replacement water pumps, the cover is not required and MUST not be transferred to the new water
pump
The operative should fit the new water pump without the cover as shown in Figure 2
