Condition
Active instrument cluster faults for engine control warnings (00A016) occur in the wake of DME error entries
P0174(1)00_004083(1AB)- ‘Mixture formation, bank 2(1) – too lean.” One or both of these errors are possible.
Furthermore, these faults occur commonly under the following engine and environmental conditions:
- Low RPM (≤ 2000 1/min)
- Closely approaching, or already warm engine and oil temperatures (≈ 90 °C water; > 40 °C oil )Low to mid
‘calculated’ engine load (20-50%)
- Vehicle Speed < 100 km/h (60 mph)
- In the majority of occurrences, the diagnostic responsible for the fault occurs at an altitude of
approximately 4500 feet, corresponding to an ambient air pressure of 861 mbar.
Technical Background
The diagnostic responsible for this fault was improved, and the software containing this improvement is available in
the tester.

Service Information
After recording a Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL), delete the fault memory log and drive to ensure there are no further
errors. If a vehicle exhibits the diagnostic error described herein, there is no need to replace any parts at this time.
Ensure that the PIWIS tester software version is at least 40.785.090. Perform an automatic programming and
coding of the DME to update the software from version 0006 to 0007 on MY ’20 vehicles and 0007 to 0008 on
MY’21 vehicles. After performing the update, clear any fault codes and perform the necessary adaptations to
calibrate the throttle position sensor, radiator flaps, and exhaust flaps before test driving the vehicle.
Warranty
As always, please document the case completely in PQIS.
