Introduction
Some 2018 – 2020 model year Sequoia and Tundra vehicles equipped with a sliding sunroof or
moonroof may exhibit a binding, seizing, or sticking condition when attempting to open or close. In
some cases, a clicking noise is present when the sliding sunroof or moonroof is stuck open or
closed. This condition may be caused by rusted or seized sliding roof cables. Follow the
Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.

 This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for
36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.
 Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in
this bulletin.

Sliding Roof Binds When Opening or Closing
Repair Procedure
1. Confirm the condition exists.
A. Does the vehicle exhibit a condition in which the sliding moonroof or sunroof is binding,
seizing, or sticking and clicking when attempting to open or close?
 YES — Continue to substep B.
 NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
B. Disassemble the sliding roof housing sub-assembly and inspect the sliding roof cables.
Is the condition caused by rusted or seized sliding roof cables?
 YES — Continue to step 2.
 NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
2. Replace BOTH the sliding roof housing sub-assembly AND the sliding roof cables.
A. Remove the sliding roof housing sub-assembly AND sliding roof cables.

2018 – 2020 Sequoia:
Vehicle Exterior – Sliding Roof/Convertible – “Sliding Roof / Convertible: Sliding Roof
Housing: Disassembly”

2018 – 2020 Tundra:
Vehicle Exterior – Sliding Roof/Convertible – “Sliding Roof: Sliding Roof Housing
(for CrewMax): Disassembly”
B. Install the NEW sliding roof drive cable sub-assembly AND the NEW sliding roof cables.

2018 – 2020 Sequoia:
Vehicle Exterior – Sliding Roof/Convertible – “Sliding Roof / Convertible: Sliding Roof
Housing: Reassembly”

2018 – 2020 Tundra:
Vehicle Exterior – Sliding Roof/Convertible – “Sliding Roof: Sliding Roof Housing
(for CrewMax): Reassembly”
3. Confirm the condition(s) no longer exists.
