Fuel Weeping From Number Three Cylinder Injector Return Hose
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves inspecting the fuel return line connections at the number three cylinder fuel
injector.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles within the following markets/countries: NAFTA,
LATAM and APAC.
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or after June 27, 2017 (MDH 0627XX) and on
or before August 02, 2017 (MDH 0802XX) equipped with a 3.0L V6 Turbo Diesel Engine
(Sales Code EXF).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some customers may experience a fuel smell and/or weepage. Upon further investigation, a
technician may notice the issue emanating from under the hood at the number three cylinder
injector return hose connector.

DIAGNOSIS:
1. Remove the engine cover. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in
DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info>09 - Engine, 3.0L Turbo Diesel/Cover,
Engine/Removal.
2. Remove the air intake tube. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in
DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info>09 - Engine, 3.0L Turbo Diesel/Air
Intake System/Body, Air Cleaner/Removal>Intake Air Tube.
3. Remove the injector silencer pad from the engine.
4. Inspect the white latch at the #3 cylinder fuel injector return hose for not being fully seated
(Fig. 1) . Proceed to Step 1 of the repair procedure.

NOTE: Cylinders are numbered front to back, beginning with the right bank. The right bank
cylinders are numbered 1, 2, 3. The left bank cylinders 4, 5, 6. Refer to the detailed
service procedures available in DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service
Info>09 - Engine, 3.0L Turbo Diesel/Engine Block/Description.
If a customer’s VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair. If any vehicle not on the
VIN list exhibits the symptom/condition, perform the repair.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Push down and fully seat the white latch for the #3 cylinder fuel injector return line down onto
the fuel injector and pulling back to ensure the white latch is seated properly (Fig. 2) .

2. Install the air intake tube. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in
DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info>09 - Engine, 3.0L Turbo Diesel/Air
Intake System/Body, Air Cleaner/Installation>Intake Air Tube.
3. Start the engine and recheck for a fuel smell or weepage of fuel from the repair area.
4. Install the injector silencer pad to the engine.
5. Install the engine cover. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in
DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info>09 - Engine, 3.0L Turbo Diesel/Cover,
Engine/Installation.
