Contact your Bentley dealer” displayed on DIP. One or more of the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC’s) stored within Engine Control Modules (ECM’s) 1 or 2 (Depending on model type) P04A000: Exhaust Pressure Control Valve “B” P04A000 / P047500: Exhaust Pressure Control Valve “A” P14AB00: Exhaust door control unit mechanical malfunction P049F00: Exhaust Pressure Control Valve "B” Technical background The root cause of Exhaust Flap Control Unit malfunction is electrical ‘shorting’ of the commutator segments, this is caused by an accumulation of “Sludge” within the Control Unit. A DTC is stored when the respective Control Unit does not move through its full range of motion. Production change Exhaust Flap Control Unit grease specification updated from VIN 80093 Should any issues be reported post the suggested VIN (80093) please raise a DISS query and await further instruction Measure Note: Right hand exhaust - ECU1 (B1) Left hand exhaust - ECU 2 (B2) CAUTION: Ensure the exhaust system has fully cooled prior to working on or around it. Using the DTC information, conduct a visual inspection of the relative Exhaust Flap Control Unit wiring harness and connector contacts. Carry out an ignition cycle whilst monitoring the operation of the left and right hand Exhaust Flaps, check for any operating issues. If an Exhaust Flap is stuck in an open, closed, partially closed position or does not achieve a full range of motion continue to follow the instructions within this Technical Product Information (TPI) document – figure 1. Do not monitor the position of the Exhaust Flaps whilst the engine is running. INTERNAL Figure 1. Remove the suspected Exhaust Flap Control Unit – Refer to Repair Group. 26 Exhaust system – Exhaust flap control units (J883, 945) – To remove and fit. Check and confirm the Exhaust Flap spindle is free to open and close by hand - Figure 2. Figure 2. If no issue is evident and the Exhaust Flap oscillates freely by hand - replace the defective Exhaust Flap Control Unit, refer to Repair Group. 26 Exhaust system – Exhaust flap control units (J883, 945) – To remove and fit.
