Condition
Some customers may comment that the MIL is illuminated.
Some technicians may find one or more of the following DTCs set:
• P18E9: Transmission Range Selector Switch 1-2-3 Stuck On
• P18EB: Transmission Range Selector Switch 7-8-9 Stuck On
Cause
This condition may be caused by liquid spill/debris on ETRS shifter or actual concern with
the ETRS shifter.
If there is evidence of liquid spill/debris and ETRS Shifter buttons are stuck and not
functioning correctly:
– Service technician will replace the shifter and advise customer about spilling liquid on
the shifter buttons. This is not a defect in materials or workmanship and should be
handled accordingly.
If there is evidence of liquid spill/debris and ETRS shifter buttons are not stuck but are
functional.
– The service technician will clean affected area with dry cloth and try to duplicate the
failure.
Information
If the vehicle/shifter is performing as expected:
– No shifter replacement is required.
– Advise customer about spilling liquid on the shifter buttons.
In case there is no evidence of liquid spill/debris:
⇒ Service technician will clear the code.
⇒ Test drive the vehicle trying to duplicate the issue
If vehicle/shifter is performing as expected, no shifter replacement is required.
If the customer comes second time for the same issue:
– Service technician will inspect the vehicle for liquid spill/debris.
• if none found, service technician will replace the shifter.
• If liquid spill/debris are found, refer to the initial diagnostics stated above.
