Condition
Although the correct amount of oil was added to the engine during an oil change service, a check of the oil level
shows that the oil level is not okay.
Technical Background
When an unapproved aftermarket speed-filling device is used to add oil to the engine, the increased oil flow rate
may force oil into the intake manifold or combustion chamber, creating the potential for engine damage.
Production Solution
Not applicable.
Service
1.
Verify whether or not oil has entered either the intake manifold or the combustion chamber.
2.
If oil is found in either of these areas, remove the oil.
3.
Fill the engine with the correct amount of oil as listed the in the vehicle’s Fluid Capacity Table in
ElsaWeb. When filling the engine with oil, use overhead oil dispensers, quart containers of oil, or oilfilling containers that do not completely seal the filler cap receptacle on the oil separator or valve
cover.
4.
Allow the oil to drain into the oil pan.
5.
Check that the oil level is correct before starting the engine.
Warning:
Do not use aftermarket speed-filling devices and funnels that have an airtight seal at the filler
cap, as they are not approved. Damages caused by speed-filling devices and funnels that have
an airtight seal at the filler cap are not warrantable and will not be reimbursed.
