• The drive system cannot be activated and/or the vehicle does not start.
• Message in instrument cluster: “Electrical system: fault. Please contact workshop”.
• The charging connector is displayed as locked although it is not plugged in.
• The charging connector cannot be unlocked.
Workshop findings:
The following DTC (intermittent or static) may be stored in the Hybrid Management, J840 (diagnostic address
008C):
DTC U019B00 Lost Communication with Battery Charger Control Module.
Technical Background
Damage to wires at coupling points T6bl and T8bd due to environmental influences.

If you discover any damage to the wires, repair both
connectors as follows:
Using a seam ripper, remove the fabric tape
between both connectors and body grommet.
Repair damaged wires using the wiring harness
repair set VAS 1978 B.

If there is not enough space to repair the damaged wires between the connector and body grommet,
the crimp connectors must be placed on the inside of the vehicle. The body grommet must then be
sealed off again using butyl.

Apply approximately 4 cm of butyl around the wires
and connector housings as seen in Figure 3.
Perform this step to both connectors T6bl and T8bd.

Press the butyl into the connector as seen in Figure
4.
Perform this step to both connectors T6bl and T8bd.

Wrap harness with fabric tape N 10592002 from
both connectors to the body grommet as seen in
Figure 5.
Make sure to start wrapping on the connector and
wrap upwards towards grommet with 50% overlap.

Finally, wrap the two bundles of wires together as
seen in Figure 6.
Apply the cloth tape starting on the harness halfway
point and then wrapping with 50% overlap towards
the grommet.
