CAUSE: Hinge composition HSA HIAP □EE □CH REPAIR SUMMARY: This bulletin involves inspecting and replacing any hinge exhibiting corrosion. The replacement hinge is equipped with a Zinc shim. REPAIR PROCEDURE: NOTE: Do not remove any hinges until the new parts are painted and ready to be installed. Always replace both hinges on the same door, hood or swing gate, to make sure there won’t be a visual mismatch between hinges of the same component. Do not replace the hinges on the other doors if no signs of corrosion is found. NOTE: There is only a slight difference between the old and new style hinges. There will be a small gap between the body and hinge (Fig. 2) and (Fig. 3) . Fig. 2 Old Style Hinge Fig. 3 New Style Hinge With Zinc Shim 1 - Slight Gap Between Body and Hinge Shim 1. Paint the hinges that need to be replaced. 2. Prepare the paint in the ideal proportions according to the manufacturer. Test first in an appropriate place to check the color tone of the paint. Determine which type of basecoat will be used solvent or waterborne based. Solvent Basecoat Procedure: • If using solvent basecoat procedure, paint the repaired area accordingly. • Refer to the approved refinish paint suppliers (Akzo Nobel, Axalta, BASF, PPG, SherwinWilliams and Valspar) recommended process for cleaning the primed surface area. • Apply DAS302X sealer or equivalent. • Apply DBC basecoat with DX57 hardener or equivalent. • Apply DC4000 clearcoat with SL814 universal flexibilizer or equivalent. 23-020-23 -4- Waterborne Basecoat Procedure: • If using waterborne basecoat procedure, paint the repaired area accordingly. • Refer to the approved refinish paint suppliers (Akzo Nobel, Axalta, BASF, PPG, Sherwin Williams and Valspar) recommended process for cleaning the primed surface area. • Apply ECS2X sealer or equivalent. • Apply EHP basecoat with T492 and T581 hardener or equivalent. • Apply DC4000 clearcoat with SL814 universal flexibilizer or equivalent. NOTE: Use the correct repair procedure listed below to replace the hinges that are being replaced. 3. Replace the front door hinges. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT > Service Library under: 23 - Body / Doors - Front, Full / Hinges, Door / Removal and Installation. 4. Replace the rear door hinges. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT > Service Library under: 23 - Body / Doors - Rear / Hinges, Door / Removal and Installation. 5. Replace the hood hinges. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT > Service Library under: 23 - Body / Hood / Hinges, Hood / Removal and Installation. 6. Replace the swing gate hinges. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT > Service Library under: 23 - Body / Decklid/Hatch/Liftgate/Tailgate/Swing Gate / Hinges / Removal and Installation.
