TD-23-01, Rev None Linoleum Repair Instructions Purpose This document outlines the procedure to patch or replace linoleum floor according to Ember quality standards. Tape the parameter of the damaged area using 2” masking tape, securing tape approximately 2” away from the damaged area. 2. Identify the best match replacement linoleum section and cut the section with a minimum of 1” extra material around the perimeter. Cut key marks on the replacement material. 3. Apply double-sided tape to the top of the damaged section and place the replacement material on top of the taped damaged section. Ensure proper alignment and press firmly. This will keep the replacement material from shifting during the cutting process. Helpful hint: Secure the replacement material at the ends with masking tape for added security. 4. Place a straight edge just to the inside of the faux grout line of the replacement material. Using a utility knife cut through replacement and damaged sections. 5. Remove damaged and replacement sections from the subfloor. 6. Place floating seam tape along long sides halfway under the linoleum floor. To ensure a bond use a small roller over the linoleum. 7. Remove the release liner from the seam tape and install the replacement material by starting at one side and then moving to the opposite side. To ensure a bond use a small roller over the linoleum. 8. Apply DT-65 seam sealer to all seams of the repaired area. Use denatured alcohol and a clean rag to wipe off the excess sealer. Note: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for sealer and denatured alcohol. 9. After 3 hours remove the masking tape; repair is complete. Keep traffic off the repair for at least 24 hours. Full Replacement 1. Remove the sofa, steps, and other furniture that is on the floor; do not remove cabinets or shower pan. 2. Using a utility knife remove the damaged linoleum by cutting around the cabinets. Note: You will use the damaged linoleum as a template for the replacement linoleum. 3. Clean the subfloor thoroughly and allow it to dry completely. 4. In an open area, lay the damaged linoleum over the replacement linoleum. Using a pencil trace pattern onto the replacement linoleum. Do not use a sharpie marker as it will stain and seep through the material. 5. Using heavy-duty scissors or a utility knife cut the replacement linoleum pattern. 6. Install replacement linoleum on to subfloor securing to the subfloor with floating tape along the edges. Ensure the subfloor is dry before installation. 7. Using ½” batten trim around cabinet areas for extra security. Linoleum Care Recommendation Standing water should be dried immediately. Special precautions should be taken when cleaning linoleum so that no standing water is present at any time. Waterresistant mats should be placed in the entryway, bathroom, and near the kitchen sink.
