Introduction
Some 2007 – 2012 model year Tundra vehicles may exhibit a rubbing or grinding noise from the
rear when making left-hand or right-hand turns. New parking brake plate sub-assemblies have
been developed to address this condition.

Information section of this bulletin.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY
• This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months
or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.
• Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in
this bulletin.

Repair Procedure
1. Test-drive the vehicle and confirm the condition exists.
Does the vehicle exhibit a rubbing or grinding noise from the rear when making left-hand and
right-hand turns?
•
YES — Continue to step 2.
•
NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
2. Place the vehicle on the lift, remove the rear
wheels and rear rotors, and check for any
irregular contact on the brake plate from
the rotors.

3. If there appears to be irregular contact from the rotor to the brake plate, replace ALL parts
specified in the Special Service Part Bearing Kit (including the parking brake backing plate).

Repair Procedure (continued)
4. Settle the parking brake shoe and disc.
A. Drive the vehicle for approximately 0.25 miles (400 m) under the following conditions:
(1) Drive the vehicle at approximately 31 mph (50 km/h) on a level, dry road.
(2) Depress the parking brake pedal.
B. Repeat the procedure above two or three times.
C. Stop and depress the parking brake three times. The vehicle should hold position with six
to nine clicks of travel.
5. Test-drive the vehicle once more to confirm there is NO noise coming from the rear of the
vehicle when making left-hand and right-hand turns.
