Customer states:
• The red coolant temperature warning is displayed in the instrument cluster and the engine fans are running.
However, according to the coolant temperature gauge, the engine temperature is not excessively high.
Or
• MIL on.
Workshop findings:
The following DTCs may be stored in the Engine Control Module, -J623- (address word 0001):
• DTC P218100: Cooling System Performance.
• DTC P1BB400: Cylinder head temperature too low.
Technical Background
In some instances, corrosion between the brass bushing and the heating pin leads to inaccurate open and close

been improved to minimize corrosion.

Replacing the Map Controlled Engine Cooling Thermostat F265 will correct this. Some models will have optimized
software in the Engine Control Module, -J623- (address word 0001), please see the service section for additional
details.
Service
Replace Map Controlled Engine Cooling Thermostat F265.
Please also check that the ball-type non-return valves in the two quick-release couplings for the coolant breather
line which connects the engine and the main radiator to the coolant expansion tank are present and are working
correctly. To ensure correct functioning, the balls must be able to move freely and the valves must open in the
normal direction of flow toward the expansion tank but close toward the engine/main radiator (refer to “Connection
diagram – coolant lines” in ELSA).
