Volvo Chassis - Hood Release Cable Binding Or
Broken


All Volvo Trucks built between February 5, 2018 and February 28, 2022.
Some Volvo trucks may experience hood cable binding or breakage due
to routing under the dash. If the above condition is found, replace the
damaged cable(s) as necessary using the following routing and securing
instructions provided below.

4. Unlatch and raise the hood manually.
5. Install the wheel arch liner.
6. Install the washers.
7. Install the screws.
8. Torque tighten the screws.

New Hood Latches and Hood Cables have been released for all VN
models. Please follow all of the steps below to install the complete,
updated solution to prevent continued binding or breakage.
3. Determine if Old Latches or New Latches are installed: New Latches
P/N 23941196 (LH), 23941211 (RH) have a silver lever and no longer
require the additional L-bracket.

If lever on the latch is black, remove the old latches and attached LBrackets. Latches with a black lever were found to have a burr which
caused it to catch.

In some cases, the corner of the airbox was causing premature
wear of the hood cable sheathing. For vehicles affected by this
issue, the corner of the air box will need to be modified:

Remove the cable ties and note the positions with a paint marker or
pieces of tape.
26. Carefully draw the cable through the hole in the firewall.

Inside the cab, make sure the hood cables are routed to the right of the
steering shaft.
