Symptom/Vehicle Issue: U0131-00-LOST COMMUNICATION WITH POWER
STEERING CONTROL MODULE “A”. Service Electric Power Steering Message On
Cluster.
Customer Complaint/Technician Observation: Owner may complain of an
intermittent “Service Electric Power Steering” message on the instrument cluster. Code
U0131-00 may be set.
Discussion: As part of diagnostics for U0131-00, connections of the EPS grounds to
the frame should be verified. It may be necessary to disassemble, clean both sides of
the eyelet and the ground stud location with Emory paper. Also inspect the eyelet for
heat shrink glue. Carefully Trim any glue from the contact surfaces with a razor knife.
Inspect the ground stud for weld spatter that could prevent a consistent flat electrical
connection. Carefully grind or file down the spatter to provide a flat connection point.
