Technical Service Bulletin 55 Trunk lid tension spring mounting clip broken 55 23 82 2071955/1 November 1, 2023. Model(s) Year VIN Range Vehicle-Specific Equipment A6 allroad, and RS 6 Avant 2022 – 2024 All Not Applicable Condition Customer states: • The trunk lid does not open on its own. Workshop findings: • There is no assist from the trunk lid tension spring(s) during opening. • The tension spring mounting clip(s) are loose/broken. • The tension spring(s) are unhooked on body side. Technical Background The force of the trunk lid tension spring was increased by adding an additional coil. By adding a coil, the rotational direction of the mounting clip was turned by 180°. Due to this change, the mounting clip can break if it is subjected to lateral forces from the tension spring. Production Solution The tension spring mounting clip will be rotated by 180°. Service 1. Replace the affected trunk lid tension spring(s) according to: Elsa>>Repair manual>>Body>>Body Exterior>>55 Hood, Lids>>Rear Lid>>Tension Spring, Removing and Installing. 2. Before installing the new tension spring(s), check if the mounting clip installation is correct. The closed end of the spring clip has to be looped around the spring to the long side of the spring (Figure 1, 2). If the clip installation is incorrect, rotate the mounting clip on the spring by 180° prior to installation. © 2023 Audi of America, Inc. Page 1 of 4 All rights reserved.
