Condition
Customer states:
• The taillights do not switch correctly when the rear lid is opened or closed.
• The taillights in the bumper light up constantly.
Workshop findings:
The following DTC may be stored in the comfort system central control module, -J393- (address word 0046):
• DTC B146C29: Rear Lid Closed Sensor Range/Performance
Technical Background
The taillights do not switch correctly when the rear lid is opened or closed due to foreign bodies in the area of the
latch or the rear lid sensor.
Production Solution
Not applicable.
Service
1. Check the area of the rotary latch for coarse dirt such as stones or other loose foreign bodies (Figure 1-2).

2. Please remove coarse dirt such as stones or other loose foreign bodies from the area of the latch or the rear
lid sensor and then check whether the taillights switch correctly.
3. If this is not the case, check the measured value block in the convenience control unit (diagnostic address
0046) to see whether the sensors are working properly and perform any other required repair work.
